Which actresses used the same show keys when playing Norma? I know Patti Lupone's keys were higher than Glenn Close's, but I recently acquired the Toronto cast album and Diahann Carroll's keys seem super low.
I know Linda Balgord used the LuPone keys in the first national tour. Or, at least there's no key change at the end of With One Look.
I never even thought to compare actresses from the tours as well. I only had the opportunity to see Petula Clark in a national tour of it.
I think that Betty Buckley is in the LuPone keys. She is my favorite Norma; Glenn Close was definitely lower with intensity. I thought Pet Clark's range was very very good too.
From what's been known, London's Patti LuPone and the 1st US Tour's Linda Balgord are the only ladies to sing the role in the original keys.
I was listening to the LuPone WPR and re-enjoying it tremendously. Patti LuPone is wonderful and she really got screwed. I still get not much from Kevin Anderson's Joe Gillis, anyone see him? I think Alan Campbell is the definitive Joe; Rex Smith is very good too.
Also does anyone know what happened to "Too Much In Love To Care"?
I would love to see a "Sunset" revival with that monstrously beautiful set in the what, now is the Lyric? renamed Ford Center? You have to admit that is an unforgettable magnificent sight that just grows and grows before your eyes. Of course, they would probably want Lady Gaga who is too young but would sell tickets.
Unless there's a billionaire Persian prince obsessed with the original production of SUNSET BLVD and is willing to jump piss thousands of dollars weekly just as a thrill-joy to see it playing on Broadway, sadly the world will never see what that production was like. ALW's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA on Broadway is the last survivor of the over-produced lavish productions. Boy did you get your money's worth back then.
They used lavish scenery to compensate the lack of a decent score, so it's not really a loss
