Susan has a new CD, Coffee House, that just went on sale on her website. The CD includes a cut song from Hercules, a duet with Terrence Mann and a cover of a Kate Bush song!

mirrie_dirrmount: I completely agree with you. It is really depressing how many truly talented undiscovered artists are out there when you look at the current crop of pop stars. Hilary Duff does not need to be singing, let alone Haylie Duff, or Paris Hilton, or Nicole Ritchie. Let's discover some real talent.

I mean Hilary Duff isn't TERRIBLE or "THE" worst singer ever. She can carry a tune; however, it is just not top-notch material. Also, a lot of pop stars nowadays are riding on their siblings fame:

Hilary Duff/Haylie Duff
Nick Carter/Aaron Carter (who was in Seussical)
Jessica Simpson/Ashlee Simpson
Beyonce/Solange
Britney Spears/Jamie Lynn Spears

All the above have a record deal or have a CD out with the exception of Jamie Lynn who sucks on All That! Why can't true artists like Susan Egan and Idina Menzel get more recognition rather than these people who market themselves. I bet 99.9% of the people in my school even know who those people are but everyone knows Hilary Duff, Aaron Carter, etc... (PS...Jessica Simpson seems to be the only one on that list with a great voice). It's sad, because you won't necessarily find Idina Menzel or Susan Egan in stores, but you'll always have 5,000 Hilary Duff ones at Circuit City or Best Buy.

I'm proud to say that until millie's post I'd never heard of Ashlee Simpson or Haylie Duff. And though I knew who they were I've never heard or seen anything that Solange or Jamie Lynn Spears have done.

There's nothing wrong with marketing. I just hate it when there's no substance behind it. As I said on a previous thread- Hillary Duff fails my "can I sing better than her with 2 months of vocal lessons" test.

Once upon a time, Disney produced some fairly enjoyable original movies for their channel-- and then, it was decided that all pre-teens should aspire to be pop stars who sing with locked nasal cavities and absolutely no technique, so as to make some of us cover our ears, groan, and turn off the damn TV. Out of all of Disney's music endeavors, I've seen one that has the potential to be profitable-- and I don't think that they'll be marketing her. I don't recall how to spell her name, so I won't slaughter it, but the red-head from Raven's show is actually quite talented. Of course, she's an alumnis of OCHSA, which Susan directed for a time.

Susan Egan is my idol. Yes.

I loved me some MMC back in the day.

As for Jessica Simpson, I think she has a killer diller voice. I think she doesn't use it all of the time. I don't like her vocal choices. She makes too many oohs and aahs in her songs. Watching her perform live is like witnessing a train wreck. I don't know if she realizes how ridiculous she looks. I liked her more pre-Newlyweds. Although, I love Newlyweds and The Ashlee Simpson Show.

Did any of you see that episode in which Ashlee and her friends take a ballet class. I fell out of my seat. I'm a dancer, and I found it incredibly hilarious. I didn't even know that you could be that bad.

I saw the episode where she takes a ballet class. I also thought it was hilarious, because I've been taking ballet-ish classes lately and I'm almost as bad as her.

Jessica Simpson sings better than Ashlee, though. Was that the same episode where she blew that whole Valentine's Day crap out of proportion because her guy friend didn't sing a certain song for her? I thought he did...but it wasn't the one she wanted? They are both stupid and ditzy. Well, since this is a Bway message board and I am getting off topic, my final answer: please don't come to Broadway you Simpson girls. Or Britney. Or Hilary Duff.

i don't remember. i didn't watch the entire thing. i agree that we have enough pop stars on broadway as it is. we need some of the ensemble members in lead roles please!!
