After seeing Drowsy, I'm wondering about Ms. Foster's Tony Award chance. Her part certainly wasn't big enough to warrant a lead nomination, but may be big enough for supporting (although Beth Leavel has it in the bag). Any thoughts?
Sutton is good.
But, after seeing THREEPENNY, I feel the award belongs to Cyndi Lauper.
Not a fan of DROWSY, but I think Sutton has a best supporting nom as well as Leavel. Sutton's nummber is just about the best thing in the show - and she is VERY funny in it.
I'd say she definitely has a good chance at being nominated, but that is a very crowded category this year.
I'd give it to Sutton before Beth, just based on last night's performance, though both are more than worthy of it.
After hearing "I Want More," I'll give it to Allison Fischer, she stole the show.
Fischer is wonderful in Lestat, but I think she'll be shut out just on the basis of age, although her role is definitely the most colorful. This catagory is too crowded this year, and she will probably have Tony chances later in life.
As for Sutton - she's a favorite, but I wouldn't be surprised if Leavel took her spot in the noms.

They might make Sutton leading. She'd still get a nomination, but a win would be tough opposite:
Patti LuPone
LaChanze
Kelli O'Hara
Carolee Carmello (maybe?)
etc. etc. etc.
I LOVE Sutton, and she was wonderful the Drowsy, but I think the category is too crowded this year for her to get a nomination (and I think Felicia Fields has it in the bag).

Do the producers decide which category to put an actor in or does the Tony administration decide this. If the producers decide which category to submit an actor in, I think they'd give Sutton a lead actress nomination, just because it might be easier to get into that category.
Actors are submitted by the producers as "lead" or "supporting" but the Tony Committee reserves the right to make their own decision regarding placement.

Sutton's part isn't large enough in its present state to get a lead nomination.

Lead will be:
LaChanze
Patti
Kelli
Maria
Chita
Agree with Yankeefan.... role is just not juicy enough for Sutton to get a Lead nom...
and LaChanze BETTER win for Lead !! Please !!!
While I love Sutton I'm hoping La Chanze wins as well. Beth actually stole the show IMHO.
She'll probably get a nomination..but the supporting actress field is very tight this year...felicia p. fields, elisabeth withers mendes, beth leavel, cyndi lauper, lauren molina, and tons more that are worth of a nomination.

i also am rooting for LaChanze for leading actress- she deserves it!
and i say sutton, elisabeth, felicia, beth, and lauren should make the supporting category!
i definitley see sutton receiving a nom in the supporting category, but i think beth leavel will take it home.
i wish sutton's role was big enough to be considered for the leading category, but i don't think it's a possibility.
