I agree- I'm in my mid 30s and there were tons of people who were in their 30s. Don't forget - Duncan Sheik also played and those of us in our 30s listened to him back in the early to mid 90s. I don't think that the audience that night at the Bowery was completely skewed young at all.

I'm sorry, but the image of a bunch of musical theater performers in a space where the crowd stands up (aka typical rock venue), where there is like, potential for a mosh pit, is still kind of funny to me.

hehe. I actually agree. Cause the crowd was SO not...rocking.

The mosh pit image makes me laugh too. How awesome would that have been though? Haha. I wish I could've gone, but unfortunately I didn't get into Nyc until the 23rd. I do have a bill though, I found it in a nail salon in Alphabet City and I stole it. And it's weird, but when I think of Michael performing in places like the 9:30 club and the Fillmore it's always sort of funny to me, I just have a difficult time really imagining him rock out even though apparantly that's what he's all about.

I agree, too, Emcee. I think it was the first night at that venue for lots of people.

I don't know what shows you guys were at, but the Bowery show I was at was mostly people 16-24, with the occasional person over 30 who was accompanying someone underage or was there because they were related to/friends with someone in the show.

Hehe, that reminds me of one of my favorite images of the night. When Mano sang Don't Feed the Beast...there were some people scattered who knew the song and were big fans, and jumping and dancing and waving their hands as though it WAS a rock concert. But it wasn't a lot of people. I mean I was in the balcony so just looking down, I just thought it was really funny to see random people "rocking" amongst most of the people that were just standing around.

Not saying either way is better or worse, just saying it made me laugh. I don't know. Maybe you had to be there.

Most of us must look really good for our age then, because I'm knocking on 40's door and I thought most people where I was standing were around my age. Although, like others have said -- it was the back of the room, near the bar. I didn't really get too close to the stage.

I thought I'd be one of the oldest people at the Bowery show (I'm 36), too, but I was pleasantly surprised to see many people older than me there...and unless they were all up by the stage, I really didn't see an extreme amount of teenagers there.

I was right up by the stage and there were definitely most teens and early 20's patrons.

I wish they would have done the Doyle "Sweeney Todd" at the Bowery.
That would have been sooo cool, in that setting!

Then, I could have finally brought so many of my musician friends who frequent the Bowery Ballroom, but would never be caught dead (ha ha) at a Broadway Theater.

The show seems like it was designed to just GO, anywhere.
Like, unpack instruments, sit on chairs and play!

Its' dark heart and super artistic, fierce attitude would have worked well there.
(Musical theater for the Broadway phobic! I tried to tell my friends...)

p.s. thanks chica for the summary!

Mano's show at Ars Nova on 10/1 may not be reflective of the gigs he's played in the past. The last I heard was that since Donna Lynne is doing a one-woman show, Mano was reluctant to go on after her with his entire band, and was considering doing something a little different and following suit, but I don't know what the powers that be ultimately decided to do. The press release description of the show doesn't lead me to believe he'll have his whole band for that gig.

It's a little crazy that they're charging twenty bucks for EACH show, but I guess they've gotta pay the performers somehow...

Oh, I'm not saying one is better or worse! I just figured I'd let you know that it may not be exactly like what you've read about on the thread. :)

I think it might make sense that perhaps the younger people in the crowd cared more about being very close to the stage, which is why it might have seemed like the crowd was generally young to Moxie, if that's where she was.

Again, I was standing in the balcony, so I saw all over the floor, and it seemed to be a pretty diverse age group to me.

For someone who gets a kick out of mocking his fans, it seems Moxie spends an awful lot of time talking about Manoel.

Just sayin'...

so, i just went to look at the show's website and didn't realize that it had already been shut down! it's just a blank white screen with "RIP Sweeney Todd" on the top.

*sniff*

Ooooooo...burn. I should just shut my mouth now.

Read the "Do actors talk about fans" thread. I mock his Jesse McCartney-like ass just as often. Sorry, but my friends and I distinctly heard a Mano fan yell something to the effect of "F*CK yeah, Mano!" when he approached the mike at the Bowery event. That's enough for me to not want to go to one of his solo gigs. He's a semi-well known (around 48th-51st street)actor, not Englebert Humperdinck.

Moxie, I thought you were sponsoring the Joe's Pub concert? I remember seeing the ad on your site.
