Too old.
She's than I am, and I'm as old as water.
And take a look at the title of the show. It is called "Sweeney Todd" not "Mrs. Lovett".
Who will break this news to her?

I didn't realize it was offical as of now. All I knew of were rumors.

Seriously, does Patti Lupone really sell tickets? There are plently other Broadway ladies who would do far better in the role than LuPone. THe style of this production just seems so un-Patti. I'm sure she'll quit or get fired in previews.

I still would love to see Patti onstage...she could stink...it's still Patti.

From what I understand, the style of the production has been dropped from characters playing instruments to a straight revival. Agian, this isn't offical, just what I understand to be the case.
By the way, has Patti gotten fired from shows before?

I still refuse to see it if she does it. And it is my favorite show.

Where did you hear that they were dropping the instruments?

Honey, I love me some Patti! Like a fine wine she is an acquired taste.

As much as I love him, does Michael Cerveris sell tickets either?? I don't really think so...Well, I take that back. He sold one for me! I'm sure I would have seen it anyway, but (questionable casting or not) Cerveris has shot this staight up to the top of my To See List.

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

They aren't dropping the concept. They may be re-tooling it, but it's not gone completely. Several members of the cast play instruments and were hired for that talent.

Yes, Patti LuPone sells tickets! Are you kidding me? Just because she isn't Idina or Kristen doesn't mean that she isn't a huge Broadway star! I'll garnet you that she will put a lot of butts in those seats.

Gypsy--
I think it's really exciting that she wrote you back. I'm excited for you! And I've never seen Patti yet, but I will be at that revival if I have to sell all my belongings for the plane ticket to NYC.

They are dropping the idea of the leads playing instruments--apparently in the London version, Sweeney played clarinet and Lovett played trumpet. I still don't know how they're going to manage that--imagine singing AND playing the most difficult, virtuosic music-theatre score of all time! They'll be dropping of exhaustion!
I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

You'll garnet me, eh?
I kind of want to see this production...but I really don't like Patti as Lovett.

It would certainly have been interesting to see Cyndi Lauper do it too.

It's interesting that we haven't had any "official" announcement, so it actually is a pretty big deal that LuPone more or less confirms it. Wish you'd asked what instrument she's playing

would Victoria Clark be a great Lovett, or what? I saw her do Beggar Woman once on PBS, but I think that she would be better as Lovett.

I love Patti, I really hope she returns to Broadway in Sweeney!
I think it's safe to say that Patti in Sweeney will sell loads and loads of tickets.

I'd be shocked if the concept was dropped, especially because the concept is the entire reason for the revival and the cast was chosen specifically because most can play multiple intstruments.
