Well. SWEENEY is NOT pop/rock music. The shows are totally different. The score is very operatic. And I would imagine a child (12 or under I would say) would have trouble following the show. The show has some VERY serious/intense moments, but is also very funny. Not cheesey funny like RENT, but thought provoking jokes.
Teens/kids tend to flock towards shows like RENT and WICKED more than a classic Sondheim show.

well, as long as there are no lesbos in sweeney, and think my parents would like it!!!! :P
bwayondabrain-
RENT or SWEENEY TODD for children? Not that I don't think SWEENEY and RENT aren't exciting shows but if you're taking children, perhaps something like SPELLING BEE that crosses both adult and child issues? If your parents are worried about content i believe the question between RENT and SWEENEY is drug use, homosexuality, promiscuity, social diseases and death vs. cannibalism, symbolic repeated death by slashing, very loud whistle noises and basic overall intense creepiness.
what that said...I have heard from sources that youngsters have been to SWEENEY even in the front row and have managed to not become too upset if at all. I'm not sure about RENT as it has been a long time since i've seen it.
My two cents-

thanks, tinydancer!
im not taking children, but my parents treat me like a child in a way, and can be sorta touchy with the shows they see- hated RENT with passion, thought Spelling Bee was cute (excpet for logainne and chip), but liked hairspray, and stuff...
so it is pretty hard to say for them, but thanks guys!

It's an incomplete recording??
That breaks my heart. I'd do anything for a full length version of this show.
