Sweeney Todd, Texas or Broadway?

I was curious to see which production people were more interested in? The revival with no orchestra starring Patti Lupone and Michael C? Or the announced Texas production with Betty Buckley and Shuler Hensley, will a full orchestra conducted by Jonathan Tunick. My vote's with Texas at the momemt, because I love the orchestra.

I'd go for the Texas production. I see Patti and Michael every summer at Ravinia and have seen Michael in several other shows over the past two years. I love Michael and think he's very talented, but I think I've OD'ed on him at the moment.

No question. Betty Buckley will be the most PSYCHO Lovett ever...and I have no interest in hearing "By the Sea" screeched to within an inch of its life.
I gotta go with the Broadway version.

Don't love Lupone in the role, but ain't no way I am traveling to Texas, so NY Sweeney it will be.

If I could possibly get to Texas while the production is running I would love to see both. As it probably will be It's New York once a week.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

I will be rushing the NYC production at least once a week as well. Maybe more. Sweeney is my favorite musical. I think the NYC casting, all silly jokes aside, is wonderful casting. LuPone turned "By the Sea" into a showstopper in the concert versions. I can't wait to see her fully-staged.

I'd go with Broadway. This new production seems very intriguing. I'd love to see pics of the London production. I think Michael Bennett mentioned that they had been posted here. Anyone have the link?

I'm sure I'll be seeing the Broadway run at some point - but the Texas version sounds infinitely more to my likeing, I have to admit.

I am pretty interested in the concept of the Broadway production. Love me some Betty but you couldn't get me to go to Texas, even if Judy Garland's ghost were playing Mrs. Lovett.

Odessa, Texas it seems- the new world power in the theatre business. I think the Texas one will be better

re: Sweeney Todd, Texas or Broadway?

Right now, Texas. I'm a fan of Shuler Hensley and not much of a fan of Patti LuPone. Give me a few weeks to get over that particular piece of casting and I might change my mind, though. The Broadway one is the one that's supposed to be giving us something we haven't seen before. Well, unless we happened to be in London. :)

re: Sweeney Todd, Texas or Broadway?

I'd have to go with the Texas production. Mainly because of Betty, but also because I live in Texas only about 3 hours away from Odessa in Dallas. I think I feel a road trip coming on...

re: Sweeney Todd, Texas or Broadway?

I love Patti and I'm sure she'll be fine in the role - she was pretty good in the concert version, but I'm not at all sure that Michael C is right for Sweeney - he just doesn't do it for me = and the production in general sounds a bit strange to me - not that I'm against shaking up the status quo - but still, I can't get my mind around it quite yet...
