What do you all think of the musical?
For me, it reminds me of Chicago with color.
I don't think its half as good as Chicago. IT's stilla good muscial but Chicago is amazing. IMO
Yes, nothing can beat Chicago, I love that musical...would be my favorite out of all of them.
Though, SC did kinda reminded me of it.
Well, I think both muscials were created in the 60s and 70s and both share that hip, jazzy, sexy, free-loving kind of vibe. I love them both.

I'll tell ya after I see the tour later this year. Can't wait for it.
The score is one of the best. Just classic Coleman. The book has problems. The new revival was very different from the original Fosse version, which sucks, because no one can touch Fosse.
Great show. The revival (which I was a proud advocate for, and don't regret it) was just a mediocre/average version of the original show.

I absolutely loathed Sweet Charity when I saw the revival with Christina Applegate last year. It seemed lackluster, with only fair acting, score, vocals, choreography, and plot. I'm hoping I just saw a bad production because I really DID try to like it. I enjoyed Chicago much more. I didn't see a lot of similarities between the two shows, though.
"fair acting"? Omg! I am shocked. Christina was great, i was very moved by her passion and vulnerbality. The last 15 mins of the show i was amazed by how great an actress she was.
I am re-creating the original Fosse staging for a production this autumn. It is a phenomenal show that requires a star turn by the title role. I also like that it isn't another "Happily Ever After" ending too.

I think that the reason for people thinking that its like Chicago is because pretty much anybody that can play Charity can probobly play Roxie.
I think it's a witty show that is just fun and entertaining. The recent revival was a blast and Applegate embodied Charity Hope Valentine, despite popular opinion.
Not everyone can play Charity, it's actually a difficult role.
I had a great time at the revival - no, it wasn't the best thing ever, the choreography was lackluster and the costumes were at times laughable (the pink band uniforms? please.) but the ensemble was enormously talented and I thought Christina did a great job. Also, the elevator scene was about the most hysterical thing I've seen.

Not anyone can play Charity, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a "difficult role." Let's save that term for roles that actually do require serious acting chops.
I think an actress has to have a certain quality about her to play Charity, be it a certain naïvete or exuberance that just draws an audience in and makes them fall in love with her.
