Posted: 5/27/05 at 8:33amDid you know that if you get the cd at any other cd retailer (i.e. Virgin, Best Buy, Tower, Amazon.com) it's cheaper than buying the cd at the theatre?

Posted: 5/27/05 at 8:43amSlightly related bit of advice for anyone visiting London - NEVER buy a cast album in the theatre, it's always cheaper in Virgin, HMV or Dress Circle.

According to the Broadway.com "Photo Op" page, "The DRG cast recording hits shelves on June 24".

But it very well could be available two weeks sooner at the theater than it is at any major retailers. So if someone is anxious to purchase it, it may be worth checking and paying the extra $5 that the theater charges. (Almost always $20. Virgin is usually $14.99 or $15.99 anyway, so when you add tax it's near $20 anyhow.)
Enjoy!

Posted: 5/27/05 at 11:15amPlease get the OBC kids, it is vastly superior to the new cast. I personally will be getting this cd for O'hare, who gives the only fully fleshed out performance in this show. Applegate is indeed charming, but her singing voice isn't her strongest quality.

Bobby -- In all fairness -- you haven't heard the new cast recording, so you have no idea how it compares to the original. Christina Applegate sounds fine in the theatre. By the time they are finished tweaking her vocals in the studio, she'll probably come out sounding like Ethel Merman.

According to Playbill.com, the recording will be available in stores on July 12th but in the theatre "starting in June, several weeks prior to the July in-store date." I guess that means sometime towards the end of June.

God, I hope she doesn't sound like Ethel Merman! Can you image her in the role of Charity.
I am sure that once the engineers get the tracks, Christina will sound nearly as good as other Charities. Let's face it, none of the past Charities were great singers.

Amazon has a pic of the cover! Ofcourse it's the pic we expected, but it looks great.
makes me even more excited.
Oh and I'm sure Christina will sound just as good - if not better than Gwen Verdon (singing wise) I doubt Christina can top Debbie Allens vocals - but I'm sure she will be just great on the CD.

She can't sing to save her life, but she is adorable as all get-out. Although, I am worried that her cute-factor will be lost on the recording.

Gwen definitely could sing---If you don't believe that, listen to NEW GIRL IN TOWN or the original DAMN YANKEES. But, it's really not fair to compare Christina to Gwen---Gwen was a force of nature.

I'm sorry - but Christina can sing just as good as Gwen. Gwen was not a singer - and many people will agree with that. With that being said - I love hearing her on Cast Recordings because its the only way I can get close to her take on the roles that I love. She was an amazing woman - you don't even know how much I respect that woman. I was never comparing the two all around - just their voices, and Christina could sing just as good as Verdon.
Anyway - Debbie Allen outsings them both as Charity!

That is definitely true. Ann Reinking was great, too. Too bad she wasn't recorded.

Posted: 5/27/05 at 5:05pmI love Ann Reinking. I really wish I could hear her take on Charity. I think earlier in her career - Ann had a very good voice. But on the Chicago recording I was left dissapointed by her singing - but I think a lot of it was her character.
#23re: Sweet Charity NEW CAST CD???
Posted: 5/27/05 at 5:09pmAnn does not have the greatest voice now and didn't then, but she was PERFECT in the role. Really wish that one was recorded.

See - I've read some people saying Ann tried too hard to be like Gwen. What do you think? I know you didn't see Gwen - but based on the OBC - did it seem like she was copying Gwen?
I still would just love to see Ann in this role.
