re: Sweet Charity in Italy

Why do I have a feeling that this is serious?

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

Very interesting. Will it be the same as the current Bway revival? Just in Italian?

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

Lorella Cuccarini is a TV star in Italy. In 1997 she was Sandy in the italian production of "Grease".

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

I don't understand it though. The Weissler's wouldn't be doing this, would they? Why Italy??

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

see same people on this tread being rude too. Hmmm must be a trend in their personality.

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

why Italy and not London? or a national tour... did someone else put up the money to mount the revival version? I'm confused...

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

The show's been done there before. Maybe if that television personality is a big enough name in Italy, she's co-producing it herself?

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

Honestly your right, I wouldnt be suprised if they shiped MOST of the set over, they cant send it all over due to the fact that it has English words on the set, so they have to make some new set peices.

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

Well wasn't the movie Charity was based on - an italian movie? The movie must be pretty big over there.

I'll be suprised if this has the same creative team as Broadway.

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

Very true, but I mean its still the same play, and obviously its going to be simmilar as the broadway one as can be seen by the ad, if Charity on broadway closes before this opens, why throw away the set on broadway if it just can be reused, if it can due to specifications of both of the theatres

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

When shows close on Broadway, they often ship the sets to Germany or Japan, etc. for foreign productions.

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

There is a chance the show will still be open. The Weissler's will try another star in the role - once Christina leaves. And that should take it through the winter/spring.

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

I saw the Italian movie Nights of Cabaria. I saw little to compare it to the Sweet Charity we know of 1966, 1986, or 2005. She is pushed in a river in the beginning, but she comes up fighting mad, not unbelieving of what happened to her.

Cabaria is not very likable, either. She's a grungy, fighting, whore, and the guy (Oscar, as we know the character) is only trying to kill her for her house money. A very sad scene when she realizes it, but the original movie is very different in plot and emotion.

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

The company presenting CHARITY in Italy is a company that specialises in musicals, apparently with an emphasis on dance shows. Founded in 1983, they have had great success with productions of GREASE, HELLO DOLLY!,SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, A CHORUS LINE and LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, the last two choreographed by Baayork Lee. They presented their own original musical version of LE NOTTI DI CABIRIA in 1999, and they have THE PRODUCERS scheduled for production at the end of this year. I gather they do their own versions of the shows based on the Broadway productions.

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

Yes, is so. Is an original production. The Company this year had great success with "The Sound of Music". Wonderful was in 2003 "Pinocchio il grande musical", best italian production of ever.

re: Sweet Charity in Italy

Hmmm... Could be that they're just using the same logo and advertising style. An example can be seen in the attached picture, showing an a poster for a recent European production of Chicago that was different from the Broadway version.

Speaking of European productions of Sweet Charity, follow the link for some horrible artwork for an upcoming production in Stockholm. I want to go see it, but I'm scared to :-/
