I love both of them and am excited at the prospect of them doing a play together. I just wish... it wasn't this one.

I read the article, but I'm confused. What exactly is this about? A couple finds a dog? Is the dog an actal dog, or is an actor playing the dog? I'm just not putting the peices together today.

My mind jumped straight to the Music Box, before Shuffle Along in the Spring, assuming it'll be a limited run. But who knows.

 Sylvia is the dog's name, played by Annaleigh Ashford.

I LOVE this show and think the casting is brilliant. Can't wait for this. Just hope it stays open long enough me to catch it on my trip in January.

Ok, that's what I thought, but it sounded crazy in my head. Annaleigh playing a dog has comedic gold written all over it. Plus, Julie White can get me to buy a ticket to anything.

Several years ago, this play was presented off-Broadway with Sarah Jessica Parker playing a dog.  So it's a difficult question to answer.

Even though we are fans of A. R Gurney's work, we may take a pass on this as the concept sounds dreadful.

Oh, good. It wasn't just me. I picked up a copy of that book/play at Strand and like many of the 50 cent books they used to sell, it fell apart before I could actually read it.

This could be a surprise hit. Ashford's a hot property, and she'll probably win the Tony next week. The role of Sylvia seems tailor-made to her particular charms.

Also nice to see a veteran pro like Robert Sella land a leading role.

Saw a production at George Street a few years ago with Rachel Dratch and Boyd Gaines.  I enjoyed their performances, but the play is really fairly slight.  Why this one?

It's cheap to produce.  Everyone's talking about going to see Ashford, but I might go to see Julie White.

As I recall the play was very well-received Off Broadway with Blythe Danner, Charles Kimbrough and Sarah Jessica Parker.  The Times (Canby) loved it and it received many drama desk nods, including best play.

This casting is very intriguing.

It does seem like Gurney and Albee conspired at the christenings of their animal enamarodas.

Seriously?  You've never heard or read anything about this play?  It's been around for 20 years and a staple in college, amateur and regional theatres all over the country.

This is easily one of Gurney's most well-known and widely-produced plays, along with Love Letters and The Dining Room.

So would this be ruled a Revival? lol. Our college did the show this past fall.
