TABOO question...
#1TABOO question...
Posted: 6/24/07 at 9:32pmI was looking at pictures and wondering why Raul Esparza has blood on his face during (I believe) "Petrified"? Could someone give me a short hand of what happened in the plot up to then or something? Thanks

Posted: 6/24/07 at 9:47pmI wish you all could have seen the London production, what was done to it in NY was beyond shocking. i dont understand that if Rosie liked the show in London so much why was it almost totally rewritten redrirected and restaged when it arrived at the Plymouth. I loved the London production, the NY one-dreadful! Thanks Rosie!

Almost? It WAS 'totally rewritten, redrirected and restaged' for Broadway.
Having seen both versions, I personally preferred the Broadway production, which focused more on the George O'Dowd/Boy George and Lee Bowery plotlines, whereas the London version was all over the place.
In all fairness to both productions, it's really hard to compare them to each other as they are almost 2 completely different shows that only shared the title: TABOO. One was performed in a super tiny basement theatre with the action taking place along with the audience and the other was performed on a traditional proscenium stage.
Plus, the London incarnation had characters, songs and scenes that never even appeared in the Broadway production.
Just impossible to fairly compare both productions. Impossible.

Uh, this was the question, right? Or did I miss something?

I never saw Taboo, but there's a comment in a Youtube video (am I allwoed to say that?) of the song that says that "Petrified" occurs after Raul's character is beaten up in a hate crime after leaving a club. Comment found here:

I hope that actually answers the question.

yes. to FINALLY answer the question out of the mongrels who veer off into other conversational territories.. Raul Esparza's character suffers a gay bashing, hate crime and poignantly goes into the song 'Petrified'. which single handedly brings down the house...every night...
. I too enjoyed Broadway over London...
and the whole cast was incredible.
