I did student rush for tarzan for last night's performance. I was first on line. I got there at 4:45. It says student rush tix are sold at 6. I ended up getting first row orchestra. This was my second time seeing the show.
The perspective is totally different when your in first row. You see actos expressions and there eyes and everything. It makes the experience much better. I loved the show. The best one in the whole show had to be Merle Dandridge as Kala. Wow she was amazing. Josh Strickland as tarzan was great. Jen Gambatese was amazing as Jane too, great accent and voice. Shuler Hensley was good. The guy who plays terk was also good.
If you have seen tarzan and did not like it, try and see it from another way in the theater. I loved it

I was there as well last night doing student rush! I agree the front row was amazing last night!! I've seen Tarzan a number of times and that by far was the most I have ever been into the show. I agree that it is so much more fun when you can see the actors expressions from up close. Josh and Jenn really get into character sometimes and it's really hard not to laugh!
I saw Tarzan on a warm summer afternoon from the front row and the feeling that I got from the simplicity and innocent nature of the show was really enjoyable. I tend to prefer less light musicals, but for a fun afternoon, Tarzan certainly didn't dissapoint.
I was there last night too for rush. "For The First Time" was GORGEOUS last night! just AMAZING! Although I'm not a huge fan of the show itself (mainly the storyline), I love most of the cast and the music and I think the cast all did a wonderful job last night!
Does anybody know if the cast is planning on staying through the summer?
the first time i saw it i fell in love with merle as soon as she started singing "you'll be in my heart". just gorgeous!

For someone who saw it for their second time, you're review is very vague.
The only redeemable aspects of the production IMO when I saw it were Merle Dandridge and the opening sequence. Other than those two, I felt it was something more along the lines of what you should see at Disney World, very theme-parkish, not worthy of taking up space at a Broadway theatre.
And a sidenote, since September of last year, the show has had only 6 weeks where it made a profit. I wonder how long Disney will let this one last?
♥ Jenn Gamby.
The first time I saw this thread, it looked like it said Tarzan 2.
As in, Tarzan 2: The Broadway Musical Sequel.
"The guy who plays terk was also good. "
That guy is Chester Gregory II, and IMO he is more than good, he steals the show!!!!
The last time I went to rush Tarzan the people coming out of the matinee looked dissapointed/perplexed/pissed so I chose not to...
That guy is Chester Gregory II, and IMO he is more than good, he steals the show!!!!
He really does! But my group was the only people that stayed to see him after the show last night. He deserves more than that, he seriously does steal the show!

Shuler Hensley (Kerchek) is leaving in March/April and will be replaced by a friend of mine, who goes into rehersals early March. Respectfully, I will let the producers announce cast changes. Let's just hope it does well enough to stay through summer/fall.
WOOHOO!
I can't wait to finally see this show this week!
NYC...I'm coming home!!! :)
Just got back from seeing the show for the first time, and I am in love. I'll write more of a formal review for my blog tomorrow, but I am just soooo smitten with this show now. Unfortunately I had understudies for both Kala & Kerchek. I really wanted to see Merle, but the u/s was ok. Rough in the beginning but grew better as the night went on. The u/s for Kerchek was adorable. Josh was phenomenal!!!!

From what I've heard Josh has resigned his contract and will now be with the show until December of 2007.

Thats what I have heard about Josh as well. I don't know about the rest of the cast though.

Why is this show still opening. Last time it made a penny was one week in september. Disney is sure not making any money on this show. And the show would be doing better if it was in a disney park and not wasting space on broadway. The show has no direction and a cheap lousy set. I didn't think that I would see a shbow where they had a bouncing castle that's used at a child's birthday party as part of the set.
And, I hope to god that Mermade is actually back on par with the typical disney shows that way beauty doesn't close in vane.
I hate the way she sings "You'll Be in MY Heart." So odd.

I know that one of the Young Tarzan's contract is up next month. He's grown A LOT so I think he might not get to renew his contract. But we'll see!
Do you mean Alex Rutherford? If you do, I hope he renews his contract. He was awsome when I saw Tarzan, and I don't want him to go before I see it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going this summer and was hoping to see the whole original cast, but now Shuler's leaving
. But he does have to move on to "Young Frankenstein".
Good to hear Josh is staying though, and I've also heard that Jenn is staying through the summer.
Any word on Merle, Chestory, Timothy and Donnie staying through the summer?
Yes Shulaer has to move on. He is sick and tired of being in a crappy show.
