Flop? It hasn't even had a first rehearsal, relax.
Scrap it?!?!?
Disney has made a deal to re do the Rodgers ala the Lunt and spent many bucks on Workshops and Creative decisions, No Way will they scrap it now.
And Bob Crowley is an Amazing artist, let's give him a chance.
(Julie Taymor, duh?)
So Phil is being picky about a Leading Man, well this is obviously very Important to all concern and Adam is just a little too old and Morrison doesn't have the "rock chops"
so let them take there time and find a dream TARZAN.
at least Disney isn't throwing in a Romano or a Braxton.
And some casting has been done, so let's sit back and watch what happens.
My main regret is that MOVIN' OUT will have to Move Out cause Disney is so Powerful, but hey that's the BIZ!

that's what I think. i dont think ive ever heard of a big audition in nyc not finding the main character. they are now auditioning in LA and will try and pull some music stars in who might be able to play the part. wouldn't surprise me if they anounce another equity casting call. frankly I think whomever gets this is in for a world of hurt.
a) you have got to be able to sing 7 songs, one of which is emotionally very difficult and lives on G's and Ab's, b) crawl on your knuckles, show true animal acting, but also honest human emotion, and c) have the strength and endurance to do cirque de soliel style swinging and climbing while singing as well. 8 shows a week? that's tough.
frankly, I think the narrator telling the story of his past and then becoming Tarzan when he catches up to the present is a great concept, but they should have stuck with the seperate parts and had Adam Pascal sing the narrator. then the Tarzan character could have had whatever voice he had and one of the 4 guys would have probably been cast.

Posted: 7/6/05 at 4:18pmDisney got a profitable four+ year run out of AIDA, which had no animated movie predecessor, and though known as an opera title, hardly has the name recognition of TARZAN. Not too many shows can create the impact of The Lion King, but I think a lot of you are seriously understimating the lure of that title, and that both Disney and Phil Collins are names that will mean something to general audiences.

My vote is on Matthew Morrison. He's got the look and the voice that they want. (He's mostly a rock singer. He almost didn't take LITP, because he didn't think he could do justice to the score.)
The auditions are a ploy in contract negotiations.
Just my TOTALLY un-informed opinion.

Posted: 7/7/05 at 1:26amHere's an informed opinion. They want Matt Morrison, but they want him to leave Piazza and go to "flying camp" for five weeks. That might not be feasible, in which case they are seriously thinking of having several rotating Tarzans. Remember, the show is called DISNEY PRESENTS TARZAN. That's two stars in the title already. They are not looking for a third. The way the show works, Tarzan would be quite a physical load for any one actor to handle eight times a week -- another reason Morrison might wish to pass. In any event, all sides are still talking. No one person has been given the nod. But there are several front-runners.

"You throw Adam Pascal in a loincloth, I don't care how bad the songs are, I like when the songs are good (like Rent and Aida) but I'll live. I will hitchhike my behind up to New York if only to gawk at him."
hahaha, I second that statement.
I think they need a big bway star to be able to pull this off.

Don't get me wrong -- there is no one on Broadway that I'd want to see in a loincloth MORE than Adam Pascal, but it just doesn't sound like he's the "type" they're looking for.
How about Gavin Creel?
