Is it worth it to join TDF?
Are the discounts the same discounts you can get through BroadwayBox or Playbill Club?
How many tickets per show can you get at the TDF prices?
Would I be able to get tickets to shows like WSS, Blithe Spirit, In the Heights, etc...
I'm assuming not shows like Billy Elliot & Lion King? Correct?
How far in advance can you order tickets through TDF?
Thanks for the info.

Is it worth it to join TDF?
Yes, if you have a lot of theatregoing time on weird days and don't mind Off-Broadway.

Different. Set prices (usually better, around $31-$35 for Broadway), but for set days.
How many tickets per show can you get at the TDF prices?
Depends on availability.

Usually stuff that's not selling very well - Avenue Q, Impressionism, The Story of My Life, Rock of Ages, Pal Joey, tons of plays, stuff like that. Blithe Spirit has popped up a couple times. Don't expect to see The Lion King, Wicked, Jersey Boys, or Billy Elliot.
How far in advance can you order tickets through TDF?
Ranges from a day to a month.
Thanks for the info.
You're welcome.

Posted: 3/1/09 at 1:41pmThere isn't really a limit to the number of tickets that you can purchase, it just depends on availability. It's definitely worth joining. Broadway musicals generally cost about $35, with plays around $31. There is a $4.00 fee for each order. Generally the tickets are at least $20 cheaper than a broadwaybox discount code. Granted, most of the time seating isn't the best, but sometimes you get lucky. They also offer discounted tickets to a variety of other types of performances, including a lot of concerts over at Avery Fisher Hall. Right now they are offering new memberships for only $20 bucks and you'd make that back after purchasing one ticket. As for the specific shows you mentioned, the only one that I've seen available recently is Blithe Spirit. Frequent sell-outs won't appear on TDF. Usually the tickets are only available a week or two in advance. Some shows might be a month in advance, but that's pretty rare.

Posted: 3/1/09 at 3:09pmI was a member of TDF for 2 years and I used the service three or four times tops. Lately I've found the a lot of the tickets they give you in horrible locations and for the same price/cheaper you can get a regular seat in the house through the box office in a much better location. It is really good, however, for off broadway if you happen to like going to those shows. There are always tons of dates and tickets available with good locations. I'd say if you aren't going to be seeing shows often it isn't worth it but if you're one of those people that goes to the theater several times a month and are interested in seeing diverse productions, go for it.

my totally subjective experience after two years' membership: it's a great way to save money off, off-off, and for special events, but a questionable way to save money on broadway.
i see a lot of off, off-off, and classical music events, so i definitely will renew.

I've had good luck with seats through TDF.
ANd to re-iterate....TDF isn't great with long term planning, but for a couple of weeks before....the closer the better.
