Here it is, folks. I'm surprised gstrus2 hasn't started a post about this already but probably not up his alley.
A limited number of $35 rush tickets, subject to availability, will be sold at the box office for day-of performances. Individuals may purchase up to two tickets with a valid student ID. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.
Rush Policy
When I went I got first row center orchestra.
I highly doubt the rush seats will be in the balcony. They're papering the hell out of this show.
Just returned from todays matinee.
Full house (mostly discounted I assume) Powerful piece. Do not see what all the ado is about re it being sacrilegious. Shaw gives a bravura performance & will get a Tony nod. Its commercial aspects are a big question mark. Cannot see many tourists flocking to see it.
The set (?) is weird & sparse. There is a glass cube on one side that Shaw sits in in Virgin Mary getup . Reminded me of Molina staring at a canvas in Red. The audience is invited to come up on the stage & they walk around & stared at her. They also have a vulture sitting on a stump that people were snapping pictures of. Naturally the bird did his business & a probably junior stagehand was sent out to clean it up ( he is in show business). No idea what the bird or the audience coming on stage had to do with it. It probably has some dark inner meaning which escapes me now. The cube was taken down before it started See it on a discount but full price is absurd especially for a one person show with basically no sets
Opening night (tonight at 6:30) is on TDF for anyone who may be interested.
Swing Joined: 10/3/12
Rushed on Friday,no queue got there at 10am and was front row dead centre orchastra.
The play I'd give a 3*, Fiona Shaw however was 5* she gave an incredible performance.
