Having lead this morning's Olivier Awards nominations with eight, fresh off a completely sold-out run at the National and having just transferred to another West End theatre (much like WAR HORSE and GUV'NORS before it...), it looks like the kind of big, fat, spectacular (and family-friendly) hit the National should have no trouble selling over here in the States. Based on the videos online, it looks like a tremendous production, and I would love to see it over here next season. (Apologies for sounding like promotional copy, I just re-read that over, but damn it I'm excited about this production.)
Did anyone catch it on NT Live when it screened, or even seen it over there (lucky plucks)?

I saw the NT Live screening. I wouldn't say it's a big fat hit. It was more of an interesting experiment. A bit obscure, a bit schticky, VERY heady. Is it a feel good show? Tries to be but it's somewhat distancing.

Posted: 3/26/13 at 8:20pmI saw the NT Live screening and I loved it. Yes it had a few periods that slugged, but mostly it shined. That said, I honestly don't know if the show could work here. I know a bunch of people that loved the book and were excited to hear it was a play, but to pay Broadway prices for it? That's the question.
