Booth is extraordinary, Booth is the event. A grounded no-frills, pragmatic Amanda, almost more Odets than Williams, and all the more heartbreaking because of it: terror and disappointment register in her eyes, as in no other. Holbook is fine. The less said about the rest, from direction to costuming and hair (Loden, looking like the three Susann "Dolls" combined, so 1966 it's simply shocking) the better. Not an inspired edition, save the remarkable Shirley Booth, who cannot be undone by the misfires of her collaborators.
