It started in Jamaica in the 70's, was reborn at Stratford East in 06, and subsequently toured the UK before ending in the West End.
Now, Perry Henzell and Theatre Royal Stratford East's stage adaptation of the former's classic Jamaican film is set to engage a Canadian uprising of its own as THE HARDER THEY COME kick off the Toronto Mirvish's 2009/2010 season.
Needless to say, I am absolutely thrilled: I saw this one first at the Barbican and again three times after it went into the Playhouse. It's a great show, a crowd pleaser despite its gritty subject matter and decidedly unhappy ending. Congrats to all involved!
