Re Wild Honey: I recall that being a bore as well, but not as excruciating as this.
Rarely have I seen a play that seems to get so much brilliantly right and so much inexplicably wrong - thankfully the good is very, very good and far outweighs the bad. And the bad is almost entirely confined to the first scene. Interminable, badly constructed, weakly staged, and unevenly acted as that scene is.

so the sydney theatre company is an awful one

"so the sydney theatre company is an awful one"
Absolutely not true.
But what does that have to do with what any one of us might feel about this particular production?

That second scene...WOW. That one scene can earn her a TONY. The first scene was definitely a big long and dragged, but elements of it were certainly important to understand the connections and all throughout the rest of the show.
Tonight it lasted a total of 3 hours 7 mins including intermission. Really enjoyed it and loved seeing Cate Blanchett.

Was wondering if anyone has seen both the Australian production and this one -- any significant differences? Also, I ideally want to see it after opening, but does anyone happen to know if the show is close to being frozen at this point, as I may not have time to see it in January and don't want to wait until March!
I'm considering seats that are to the extreme right or left -- would that matter much for this production, blocking-wise? Thank you!
Does anyone know where the rush seats are for this show? Was thinking of trying it out this week.

Not sure if any changes are being made - since it's essentially a transfer from Sydney, I would think things are only getting tightened and refined. So I guess the script is frozen (running times of the first preview when I attended and later performances are almost exactly the same by a few minutes) which indicated to me there haven't been huge changes. I'd give it till five performances before opening for it to be frozen.
No, I shouldn't think the extreme right or left is any issue - most action takes place centrestage and doors are purely used for entrances/exits. Being too far forward on the extreme sides may make you miss things due to walls of the set but I can't be sure - that's just me guessing.

I heard that rush seats are in the front row? Could someone verify that?

i rushed for friday night and got D16- was very happy with my seat, especially hearing the people being me say they paid $160 each. I got to the box office a little before 2Pm that day.

Thank you! And so far there have been three rush reports in this thread -- all front orchestra section, extreme sides.

I assume it's probably labeled partial view but did you actually miss much? Was house right a good area to be in?

Went to rush this morning. Was in about 6th in line by 8am. They only had 4 rush tickets available. Bummed out, especially concederning that it is cold and raining. Maybe it's smart to just buy a full price ticket

To be fair...it's the busiest week of the year for NYC tourism.

You're right. Maybe I should try again in a couple of weeks or in February.

Caught last evening's performance. I was in the rear mezzanine and had no issue with my seat. Blanchett is an incredibly physical actress, so I didn't feel like much was lost from the stage to where I was seated.
The production feels long, but I've never seen a Chekhov piece move at a good clip. It's funny and well adapted in a way that honors the original text but breathes a lot of contemporary life into the piece (unlike Stephen Karam's horrendously botched Cherry Orchard).
I wouldn't say it's Blanchett's showiest stage work in NY, and it feels a bit underwhelming for a Broadway debut, especially considering the powerhouse roles she's taken on in the past. Especially with Sally Field coming in the spring, I think a Tony win is far from a sure thing for Blanchett.
There's also Allison Janney, Laura Linney, Laurie Metcalf, & Cynthia Nixon coming in the spring.

Now that tourist season is over, I'd love to hear if anyone rushes this week, and their experience (what time they got there, etc). Thanks!

For what age is this show appropriate? IE what sexual themes are present?

Seduction, adultery, sexual acting out, sexual dissatisfaction, philandering, intimacy, sexual compulsion, jealousy, betrayal
Apart from that though, while I would think some older teens might enjoy the show, I doubt it would please any younger kids.
