Do you think that THE PRODUCERS really worked world wide? I know it´s worldwide hit but I was just wondering!!!! Did it work regionally? In Europe or South America?
I don't know about internationally, but Pittsburgh CLO did a production this past summer with Jim Stanek as Leo and John Treacy Egan as Max, and it was fantastic. Audiences loved it, and it was the best show of the summer season by far.
Having seen a number of different productions of the show at various levels, I don't think it ever worked that well without Nathan Lane at the helm. Every time I've seen it without him, something has been missing- a big, starry performance that was able to push jokes that weren't all that funny over the top.
But I´ve checked on Wikipidea and THE PRODUCERS has presented in a looot of countries like Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Brasil, Venezuela, Finland, Sweden, Hungary, Italy, Czech Republic, Panama, Japan, etc etc...
So why do it if it doesn´t work?
