Rant about the 2012 TONY nominations here May 1 2012, 10:09:00 AM
Like many of you, I'm also surprised that Leap of Faith pulled out a Best Musical nomination with no recognition in other categories. I also think that this puts them in a difficult situation financially. As of the grosses yesterday, they were bleeding money. Now, I'd assume, they'll pull to stay open through June. Has a show ever been open at the time it was nominated for Best Musical and closed before the actual awards ceremony?

Congrats, Laura Osnes! May 1 2012, 09:29:52 AM
Unbelievably happy for Laura, not only to be nominated, but to be recognized specifically for this role. Many congratulations!

Peter and the Starcatcher or Newsies? Apr 13 2012, 12:33:02 PM
Peter and Newsies are my two favorite shows of the spring, so choosing between them is impossible for me, although Peter is also probably one of my favorite shows ever. The buzz around it(on this board, at least) has been a bit quiet, so I'm really happy to hear from people who are loving it. Enjoy whichever show you end up choosing, alexxmichele!

Leap Of Faith Previews Apr 9 2012, 01:13:00 PM
"I'm amazed that we're supposed to believe that the Angels aren't in on the scam. I haven't seen the film in years, so I don't remember if that was part of it, but the number of people that are used to gain background info on the townspeople would lead me to believe that everyone involved knows what is really going on. Otherwise the Angels are dumber than the townspeople that they have unknowingly been swindling." I'm not at all familiar with the movie, but when I saw the show, the Ange

Leap Of Faith Previews Apr 5 2012, 07:26:36 PM
There was no announcement (at the first preview, at least), but on the Musical Numbers page of the playbill, it says, "All proceeds from the revivals' collection baskets will be donated to BC/EFA."

Disney's NEWSIES On Broadway -- Previews Mar 20 2012, 05:46:50 PM
Also regarding this past weekend, a friend told me that single tickets were sold for lotto price after the Sunday matinee lottery. I'm curious to know if that's been done for each performance or only for select shows.

Peter and the Starcatcher - moving headshots on website! Mar 12 2012, 12:41:00 PM
You're not the only one overly excited :) That is AWESOME and fits the show's personality so well.

What Broadway Play Should I See Mar 6 2012, 02:53:29 PM
I've not yet seen any of the other plays you're interested in, but I have to put in my highest recommendation for Peter and the Starcatcher. Truly a one-of-a-kind production, funny and heartfelt, and you won't want to miss Christian Borle's performance.

Mandatory bag check at Shubert Theatres Feb 22 2012, 03:31:01 PM
"I do not believe that it goes so far as to include purses. Its most likely the usual, back packs, luggage, shopping bags, and the odd toaster oven that one just has to buy before going to the theatre." I saw Death of a Salesman on Saturday and this seemed to be the case. At any rate, no one gave me any problems about keeping my purse with me.

1 Ticket for Scottsboro Boys in Philly Sunday 2/19 Feb 20 2012, 12:04:16 PM
No problem! Based on how many times I tried to get a student rush ticket (any unsold seat an hour or two before curtain) and failed, before buying an advance ticket for last night, I'd say that most of the run was sold out, which was incredible to see.

MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG First Performance - I was at the dress.. Feb 20 2012, 12:24:29 AM
"I also had the feeling that if this were a new musical it would be considered the best new show in a very long time." As someone who went into the show last night with no prior knowledge of it, I have to agree. I was so moved by it that it's almost hard for me to believe that it was originally a "flop." By far my favorite Sondheim show that I've seen.

1 Ticket for Scottsboro Boys in Philly Sunday 2/19 Feb 20 2012, 12:13:09 AM
Sorry you weren't able to make the show tonight! I was there (had already bought my ticket before seeing your post yesterday), after seeing the show once on Broadway. The staging, set design and costumes were very, very close to the originals (as intended), which was cool to see recreated in a small theater, and the cast were all fantastic. Many of them were visibly moved at their final curtain call. I feel so fortunate that I got to see this piece again.

Starcatcher Question Feb 11 2012, 10:00:24 PM
I would say it was around 2 hours 15 minutes, -ish...definitely not over two and a half hours.

Newsies 12 weeks only???? Feb 11 2012, 03:40:35 PM
I agree that there are certainly no guarantees of an extension, but to me, the fact that their current closing date is the day of the Tony Awards seems indicative of an extension if nominations flood in for the show.

The SMASH Project Feb 3 2012, 03:52:36 PM
This is great! I had the pleasure of seeing him as Carmen Ghia at PCLO a few summers ago...absolutely hysterical. What a talented guy.

Best Choreography - 2012 Tony Award Jan 24 2012, 08:23:28 PM
Could a show like Peter and the Starcatcher, which credited Steven Hoggett with "Movement" off-Broadway, receive a nomination? I'm assuming that "movement" is different than "choreography," but thought I'd ask anyways.

Porgy and Bess Rush Policy? Jan 21 2012, 07:28:24 PM
I rushed today for the matinee, and got to the box office a few minutes before noon. There were three people in front of my friend and I, and we were given orchestra row O seats, which were absolutely fantastic. (Side note: Norm Lewis was out, and the show was Nathaniel Stampley's first as Porgy. I thought he was incredible!)

BONNIE AND CLYDE only selling tickets until Dec. 30... Dec 29 2011, 11:52:21 AM
Thanks for that very informative post, Chester3. It seems like you have an inside scoop and it's both interesting and confusing to me to read those details. I've been browsing through the CTI's Guide to Producing Plays and Musicals, just for my own interest, and what you said really reinforces everything I've gained from the book thus far - that producing is a HUGE risk. Essentially, investing in a show should be viewed as making a donation to a charity - you wouldn't expect to get your money ba

The Scottsboro Boys in Philly? Dec 21 2011, 12:23:51 PM
The cast was just announced: http://www.playbill.com/news/article/157865-Derrick-Cobey-Rodney-Hicks-Kendrick-Jones-Forrest-McClendon-JC-Montgomery-Set-for-Philly-Scottsboro-Boys#.TvH_v4Li0jk.facebook I will be attending as well. Was fortunate enough to see their second-to-last performance on Broadway last year and cannot wait to go again, and to take a friend or two who missed the New York run.

Plays w/ actors playing objects Dec 19 2011, 10:35:30 AM
Peter and the Starcatcher is the perfect example for this topic. The cast plays too many different objects to name.
