Putting the wraps on our 2022-23 Broadway season is the first revival of Lorraine Hansberry’s final play, The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, which kicks off a lightning-fast preview period tomorrow night (April 25) at the James Earl Jones Theatre, prior to an April 27 opening night. Guatemalan movie star Oscar Isaac and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan lead the company, which also includes Gus Birney, Julian De Niro, Glenn Fitzgerald, Andy Grotelueschen, Miriam Silverman, and Raphael Nash Thompson. Directed by Anne Kauffman, The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window plays a limited run through July 2.
“Set in 1960s Greenwich Village, Hansberry paints a portrait of a couple’s marriage, and their progressive circle of friends whose ideals do not always match reality. Will those ideals, which Sidney clings to, cost the couple their marriage?”

Why are the previews so short? Because they just did this show at BAM?

Just got back from previews tonight. Had a seat in Balcony Center Row D with one of the $42 discount seats, great view for the price. I had a good time with this show, Oscar Isaac is absolutely dynamite in this and an obvious lock for a Tony nom. Outside of him though, nothing really popped for me personally. I think there's good performances from Brosnahan and the rest of the supporting cast. I felt like the text itself from the play felt incredibly relevant with things we see today. Act 1 is certainly much stronger than Act 2. Act 2 sort of fell apart from me in the last 15 or 20 minutes but overall I had a good time and it's worth seeing for Oscar's performance at least.
As part of the previews tonight, they also gave us free tote bags which was great! Oscar had to run home for his son's birthday, so he headed straight to his car from the stage door which was completely understandable.
