Havent been on the message board in awhile, any rumor of who will replace the late great Richard Griftths in the West End transfer of THE SUNSHINE BOYS when it comes to LA - and then rumoured NYC?

Judd Hirsch would make an interesting choice

urgh, i hope its not being pulled....i renwed my subscription at The Ahmanson mostly because of this show - and mostly because of the late Richard Griffths.

I caught a West End revival of PRISONER OF SECOND AVE with Jeff Goldblum and Mercedes Ruel a few summers ago and thought that might transfer to the US...

A good Neil SImon revival wouldnt be a bad thing

I haven't heard anything about it being pulled. The Ahmanson originally announced they would seek a replacement, last week at the theater, they had large posters with Danny DeVito's picture on them to promote the show for next season.

Indeed - all the marketing materials have Danny DeVito solo on them. Hopefully, they'll be able to secure an A list actor for this.

Ahmanson certainly hasnt had the best of seasons - and this one coming up isn't so hot either. Although I will say the Taper is nailing it with their selections.

Who else could they cast?

Obviously Lewis J Stadlen has a gift for classic vaudeville (see The Nance) and could be a great matchup with DeVito. Not exactly a name brand though.

ETA: Hal Linden is a huge hit at the Ahmanson in SCOTTSBORO BOYS. He's got the Jewish cred (The Rothschilds) but doesn't seem nearly borscht belt enough for me to get down in the ditches with De Vito.

Actually, Hal Linden did The Sunshine Boys in 2008 in L.A. at the Odyssey Theater and he was very good, though he played the Willie Clark role which DeVito is playing now. But he's a fine actor, I'm sure he would give a credible performance in the other role. I don't see them pulling it. If that was the plan they would have done it by now and announced an alternate show.

A follow-up to my earlier post. I had a donor-solicitation call from the Ahmanson on Monday and confirmed that Sunshine Boys is still planned for the fall. I was told that they are in the process of casting a replacement for Richard Griffiths' role, but don't have timetable for when the replacement will be announced.
