THE THANKSGIVING PLAY Reviews

Saw this in previews and I had a viscerally negative reaction to this. I wasn't simply bored, but was angry at those involved for trapping me there. I found the writing to be inexcusably lazy and puerile, amounting to 90-minute SNL sketch - the bad kind that's good for a chuckle in the first 20 seconds but leaves you waiting for a new idea for the remaining 5,380 seconds. I'm all for skewering dogmatic "virtue signaling" and "wokeness" (for lack of a better term), but this isn't it. If you were to drop Jordan Peterson in the audience, he'd be delighted.

I hope they help business. These preview grosses have been scary

I saw this last night and was honestly... not impressed. The script really fell flat for me personally, and even Rachel's direction and some star power couldn't help it...

This one was a miss for me. Chris Sullivan was my favorite in the cast, but honestly the kids on video were the best part.

I saw the matinee today. I liked it. I didn’t love it. The vidoes of the kids were great but found the whole thing to be a little one note towards the end.

D’arcy Carden and Katie Finneran were incredible. Everyone in the cast was great - made me stage door again after not doing in forever just because I wanted to congratulate them all on a great performance!

Overall I’d lightly recommend. Pretty funny and great performances but could use some trimming.

Last thought: really surprised they didn’t try to push Katie Finneran for lead actress - definitely an ensemble piece but a good case could have be made for her

The website says 100 minutes, no intermission but it was less than that- more like 90
