SueleenGay - it's one of those promo things. The show obviously isn't selling out, especially on a Wednesday matinee. It's a donation....The View didn't pay for it. Seems like it was done in advance.

I know The View didn't PAY for them. I just wondered if the tickets were arranged for the audience when the act was booked or the day before when they realized the house was only half full and there were plenty of ticket available.

PEACE.

I guess Rosie--with all good intentions--just wanted to drum up some excitement for a new Broadway show, and I'm sure the audience was thrilled to get free tickets, even for that crap.

Anyway, I can't wait til she starts plugging Company, ACL and Les Mis.

As I said, it strikes me as done in advance, when the guest is booked.

qhy ia it such a scandal that they gave tickets away? that they had open spaces? It's a NEW show and hadn't been a top headline maker. Every show has to BUILD an audience. And it isn't uncommon for a new show to paper an audience.. especially during previews. And hell.. HOW many ticket giveaways did Rosie do on HER show again??

My comment about the pretzels was a slam at "The Producers," which I personally think is crap rather than a slam at anyone, reguardless of their opinion of "The Times."

To each his/her own. Depending on your theatrical eye, there could be a lot of rediculous stuff out there.

Some find singing witches rediculous. Some love it.

Some find dancing cats stupid. Some love it.

Some find ABBA nauseating, some love it.

Some wish Mel Brooks would fall off the Empire State Building. Some wish he'd fall off the Chrystler Building. :)

Broadwayguy, I wasn't criticizing the giveaway, I think it's great. I was just curious. Say they have booked Ebersole and Grey Gardens is selling out, would they still have the tickets to give away even if it was done in advance? I would say probably not.

PEACE.

They would give away tickets for a future date, or several dates, when things are open... IF they decided to have a give away.

If you want to be Grey Gardens specific, I think it would be harder. Whiles Times is in a small house, the Kerr, where Gardens is, is still signifcantly smaller and therefore sells much easier. Times in also coming MONTHS after a run on the west coast and is still building an audience. Regardless of personal opion of Ms Ebersole or Greyu Gardens, one must admit the show is coming in on the heels of a successful NYC run, already with awards, already with months of word on the street about ACTUAL performances, etc etc etc. I should hope that they find it easier to seel tickets....

Princeton78, it's obvious you were initially making a reference to The Producers (and not necessarily directing your comments to anyone personally)...Assuming your last response was to me (since I quoted you in that ridiculously long last post of mine) I'm just saying, whether you like the shows you mentioned or not (frankly, I'm not particularly a fan of The Producers, Wicked, Cats or Mamma Mia), I don't think any of those are meant to be taken all that seriously (certainly not The Producers or Mamma Mia, I'm sure some Wicked-ites would argue that there's some profound message in that greenified shreik-fest somewhere). Anyway, moving on, Times, I think, has a certain degree of artistic (I don't know) pedigree, or integrity even, to witstand. I mean it's Dylan and Tharp. I think when you see people boucing around on yoga balls, representing the "rolling stones" of the song, it is, to my eyes at least, much more out of place and disconcerting, than pretzel hats, witches on souped up hydraulics, or pirouetting pussies. Just my opinion...or have I, again, totally missed the mark?

ETA: Ugh, never mind. I guess we're basically on the same page as far as the "to each his/her own" front...Just, never mind. Isn't it Friday yet?!? Please!

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)
