THE YEAR OF THE PLAY?

Last year there was a paucity of new plays on Broadway, but this year consider the potential feast: The Ferryman by Jez Butterworth; To Kill a Mockingbird by Aaron Sorkin; a new play by Lucas Hnath about Hilary Clinton (final opening of the season on April 25th); Network by Lee Hall; The Inheritance, The Lifespan of a Fact, American Son all introducing new American playwrights to Broadway; Ink by James Graham about Rupert Murdoch; a new play about the bloody aftermath of "Titus Andronicus" with Nathan Lane and Andrea Martin; Theresa Rebeck's new play kicking of the season at the Roundabout-about Sarah Bernhardt playing Hamlet opening the season opening October 6th and a new fantasy play about Hilary Clinton by Lucas Hnath closing out the season on April 25th. And most of these are by American playwright. Broadway and serious theatre might truly be kicking it this year.

Sharing your excitement about this season's dramatic plays. Question: Isn't the Hnath play being directed by Joe Mantello. Coming off of "Boys in the Band" and "Three Tall Women", I'd be looking forward. And is "The Inheritance" definitely coming in? And there are some pretty in nifty revivals scheduled: "Torch Song Trilogy", Kenneth Longergan's "The Waverly Gallery", "True West", "All My Sons", "King Lear". Any word on Martin McDonagh's "Hangman"?
