Who's going to go see THINGS TO RUIN: The Songs of Joe Iconis at Second Stage??
This show is the best theatrical rock concert I've ever seen. I was obsessed with it at the Zipper, and then the Zipper closed, terminating the run of Things to Ruin! BUT THE SHOW IS BACK!!! And I think Second Stage will be a great venue for it.

What exactly is it?
The Black Suits was awesome!
RentBoy86, it's a theatrical rock concert/ song cycle.
THINGS TO RUIN will be ROCKING Second Stage during dark nights of the current show at Second Stage, Sherie Rene Scott's EVERYDAY RAPTURE. (Kind of like the way ELEGIES: A SONG CYCLE played Lincoln Center on the dark nights of Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme.)
EEEEE!!!!!!!!

I'm so excited they found a new home after the zipper closed!
Cicada song is a masterpiece.
I love the Cicada song too!!!!
But I also love "Helen"... and "Honey"... and "Headshot"...
Wow, lots of "H" songs.

This really is one of the most awesome nights I've had in the theater. I brought my sisters to the show instead of taking them to see something on Broadway back in November, and they didn't miss seeing "The Little Mermaid" or "Phantom" one bit. I'm going to try to catch the show May 8th. Personally, I think "Song of a Gun" and "Guide to Success" are absolutely inspired... in addition to the classics already mentioned.

So, I'm still confused. What does a "theatrical rock concert" even mean?
Also, is this considered a 2nd Stage show? I'm guessing not, but wasn't sure if their student rush process still existed for this.
With tickets being $25 I kinda doubt there would be any sort of rush. That's just my, personal, guess so I could be wrong.
To my understanding "Things to Ruin" is a concert-like experience where the songs are theatrical in nature. They could be in a show but aren't. There is no book linking each song. Anyone's free to correct me on this.

So it's just a song cycle essentially?
Oh, and I didn't realize they were $25. That's basically student rush, so yeah, you're probably right. Thanks for the info though! I'll def. check it out.
I hope they can manage to cover up that hideous "Everyday Rapture" set.

It's not really a song cycle. It's more of a concert that features various Iconis songs performed by his friends, some of which have been taken from his shows (like The Black Suits that was a part of SPF last summer) and some that are stand alone. There's no context given to any of the songs, but they're each little stories within themselves so it all works and is easy to follow. I'm pretty sure there's no rush, but tickets are pretty cheap.
If you want an idea of his work, look him up on youtube or listen to a song sample on his website: mrjoeiconis.com.

Yeah, I YouTubed it, and I thought it sounded great. But I was just totally confused. I didn't realize Joe Iconis was a real person.

And whatever happened to the planned "CD"?

I'm definitely going on May 4th. I love Nick Blaemire and I love to hear him sing ANYTHING.
All of the love on this thread makes me so happy!!! But nothing made me laugh harder than this:
"Yeah, I YouTubed it, and I thought it sounded great. But I was just totally confused. I didn't realize Joe Iconis was a real person."
Yes, Joe Iconis is a real person. Indeed, he's smiling at you in that ad at the top of the page.
As for the "planned CD", Sh-K-Boom is in the process of producing it. Hence, they are a co-producer of THINGS TO RUIN. I'm so excited for the CD, because then even more people are going to get to know these great songs. And they will all be sad that they didn't see the show live...
Sh-K-Boom is great at producing amazing musical theatre recordings that fill all of the peeps that missed the show in the first place with remorse... Little Fish... Trailer Park... See What I Wanna See... and the original "I wish I'd seen that when it played in New York", The Last Five Years...
Did anyone here see the first incarnation of Things To Ruin in 2006?
Bumpity bump... Nobody saw the show in '06? I want to talk to someone who did!
Yay Things to Ruin!!! $25 tickets, people!
I'm going on the 4th and am very excited! Yay for Nick!
3 DAYS!

I just got tickets for this. Iconis is the one to watch out for.
I'll be there tonight...looking forward to it.
WAT, what did you think of the show?
Anyone going tomorrow night (actually tonight) Friday the 10th?
I loved this when I saw it on the 4th. I had never heard Iconis' music before and was utterly taken by it. This show absolutely needs to be recorded.
Nick Blaemire steals the show with second half (there's no intermission) solo. He has a great voice and true stage presence. The cast is 100% charismatic, and each one ropes you into his or her songs.
The time flew by and I will be making every effort to see this again at 2nd Stage. If you aren't familiar with Joe Iconis take a chance on this. You won't be disappointed.
