Taboo Question:
What are the differences between the Londa Cast as the new Broadway one? I hope Leigh Bowery was in the London Cast!

Posted: 1/6/04 at 5:27pmOn another Taboo related subject, they had a full color page ad in yesterday's New York Times. The ad while colorful sort of points out what is wrong with the musical in its NY version. The ad has pictures of all the main characters, but doesn't really make it clear exactly what the musical is about. That's the problem with Taboo it has a lot of colorful, freaky characters but they don't really fit together to tell a coherent story that the audience cares about.

Posted: 1/6/04 at 5:35pmYes, although I appreciate why Touched was dropped, as the scene it was written for doesn't exist in the NY version. I mourn the loss of Pie In The Sky most. That one would still have relevance in the show as it is now, last song before the finale (imo)

Well, it tells you that it's about the "colorful, freaky characters"

Posted: 1/6/04 at 7:34pmI like all of the new songs but especially The Fame Game. I dunno why but I found myself singing the chorus for days after only hearing it once in the show. I hope there will be a Broadway Cast Recording.

Posted: 1/6/04 at 7:38pmThe Fame Game is a great song, very memorable melody. I love the way Raul does Sexual Confusion--very rock and roll. Come On In From the Outside is beautiful.

Posted: 1/6/04 at 7:54pmActually, I thought the Times color ad was overdue, a grabber, and like the TV commercial, makes the show look viable and very alive. Without Rosie in the news, or crepe-hangers at previews, it's hard to keep it in the public eye.

Posted: 1/6/04 at 8:57pmI loved Pie in the Sky. Havent seen it in NY yet, but doubt that the finale could be better. Im so happy they didnt cut my three favorite songs, Pretty Lies (liked it sung by a girl, but makes sense for him to see it too), Il Adore (the best!) and Petrified..

I love Come On In From the Outside and Sexual Confusion...thanks for letting us know which songs were new!
I did see Taboo in London, when it was in previews, and I don't remember which scene Touched by the Hand of Cool was used in, would someone please enlighten me? I love the version on the demo cd...was it always in the London version? I know they made some changes there after I saw it, for instance Billy, the Marcus character, didn't actually have any physical relationship with the Boy George character in the show I saw, it was just a rumor started by Leigh. The only songs that really stood out for me when I saw it in London were Give Me a Freak, because I thought Paul Baker was terrific, Guttersnipes (which is still one of my favorites!), Il Adore, and then Independent Women, just because I thought that number was so cheesy! Oh, and Karma Chameleon at the curtain call, of course.

I'm all right, but not crazy about, "Independent Woman," and I'm not fond of "Shelter," but the fact that "Touched by the Hand of Cool" was cut is just plain wrong. It was one of the best songs in the show. I liked "Pie in the Sky" too.

Posted: 1/7/04 at 3:26pmThe message in the show is muddled..is the story about boy george..leigh bowery......or boy george meeting leigh bowery..or boy george playing leigh bowery so he could me boy george on stage...confused..me to..however the two best moments in this very poorly direct show are.....I Can See Through you and the visually the most stunning moment is boy george/leigh bowery in the glass case as it slowly retreats upstage and the lights dim ever so slowly....not a word was uttered... the worst thing about the show was marilyn who looked more like sandra bernhart (sorry dear)
