Can anyone tell me what the context of the song 'Petrified' from Taboo is. The scene before or anything?
Thanks for the help!
Phillip has just confronted Marcus about telling the press about George's addiction, and then Marcus' friends beat him up and make fun of him for being a gay drag queen.
Or
In the UK version(which is far better)
Josie's husband is waiting at a bus stop to get a bus home after josie has finally got rid of him,Phiolip gives him a few home truths and tells him josie is better of without him, then the husband beats him up.
Hmm, I have never seen the UK version of Taboo before, so I am not arguing that the US version is better, but I do like the context of the US song better. I think it fits with the message of the song...
Raul plays Philip Salon, owner of the club Taboo. He is beaten up in the street for being a queen. The song begins when he is left on the ground, blood dripping down his face, and him trying to stand up and put on his feather boa coat. The song is, in essence, saying that those thugs and Philip Salon (and all of us, really) are the same. We are all scared inside.
I've said this before and I have to say it again, since the subject came up. Raul singing this song is one of the most breathtaking performances I have ever seen on a stage.
Definitely agree with Jane2, Raul's performance was excellent. I liked it better each time I saw the show. Come to think of it, I've never seen him do anything I didn't love. In Normal Heart I think I did stop breathing a couple times, too overwhelmed even to cry.
