I saw the video of Taboo on Broadway.com... The numbers don't look very good. Am I in the minority here?! Sorry--I don't know how to link it. Updated On: 10/10/03 at 05:30 PM
Raul Esparza has certainly become a much bigger star since 'Rocky Horror'

The songs dont' sound BAD, but they do sound pretty intimate and small....
I have been so excited for Taboo, having the London CD and hearing the great music. Now some things for the NYC show are getting a little to weird and "out there" even for me and thats alot coming from a 19 year old eccentric girl.
I think it looks like a very "different" kind of show, and I don't really like the musical numbers, but I still think that Liz McCartney is wonderful. At this point I think it looks rather sloppy, and I'm not sure what to think right now. Oh well, I'll stay optimistic for the time being.

I think the "weirdness" is being over stated. Apart from the characters being portrayed (and their costumes/make-up) the show is quite a conventional musical.
Which of the musical numbers have Americans had the opportunity to see in full, so far?
From the clips I saw on NY1 I agree about the sloppyness.
That's very...interesting. Do you think it's going to be a flop?

They only had their first full run through last Thursday.
I just watched the video on Broadway.com and I think it's a nice idea. It's a topic probably a lot of New York theatre goers don't know too much about so that makes it nice and something fresh, but yes I agree it did seem sloppy. None of the music sounded too tuneful either...but most of it didn't sound bad. That girl (someone please tell me who she is) who ripped the fringe off the lamp shade during her number is AMAZING! I would see the show just to watch her I really liked what I saw from her. Someone please tell me who that was and what song she was singing??? Thanks!
PS - I'm ready for a video feature about Wicked! Who's with me?
Hi
she's singing "safe in the city"
Sarah Uriate Berry would be her name. Isn't she great?

What have you guys seen her in that she was good in? All I know is that she did a workshop of "dance of the vampires."

Sarah Uriate Berry was also in "A Little Night Music" at the Sondheim Festival in D.C. last summer.
For some reason, I haven't been able to get the video to play, so I am really wondering what could possibly look sloppy about it since it is only a press rehearsal, no costumes, makeup, sets. Can someone expand on that thought. Except for the music and the vocal talent, what can you really be judging here?
Newyorkuniq, the short clips I saw on NY1 were only snippets of musical numbers taken out of context, some sitting and singing, a few seconds of choreography. I am curious what about those clips looked sloppy to you.
I think the show looks like it could be pretty cool--can't wait to give it a chance and see it. =)
the video footage looks horrible. i dont think it will do very well.
Sarah was also in Sunset Blvd. with Petula Clark. As for Taboo, I think it has some high points and some faults. We'll just have to see.

How can any of us really know what it's good points and bad points are, when it hasn't even started previews yet? Not to mention the fact that the online rehearsal videos were shot before the company had even had it's first full run-through!
I think the show is going to be great. And I do know the full story and have been listening to the CD for the past 5 months because the music is awesome. As for the sloppy thing I was reffering to the bits of chorography I have seen for "Freak" and "Touched By The Hand Of Cool".

I agree LC. Forget reviewing previews, now we get reviews of rehearsals, based on a short piece of internet footage.
Geeez... don't get your panties in a wad I don't think anyone here is trying to review the show. Updated On: 10/12/03 at 01:12 AM

I was not epressing feelings either way about Taboo specifically. I haven't seen it. I was just commenting on my observations about what has been posted. That's what this board is about, afterall, and what makes it interesting.
Didn't say anyone was trying to review the show, just the rehearsals
