Talk about anything except Wicked
Talk about anything except Wicked#0
Posted: 4/19/06 at 7:03pmI have decided that there should be a thread where no talk of Wicked can happen. I have nothing against Wicked, I actually enjoyed it when I saw it and I listen to the original cast recording a lot too. I just am tired of being discussing its inherent quality. For all of you who are tired of it too...I give you this gift. Enjoy!

Yes, I did. I broke the rule.
I LOVE Pacific Overtures. Sondheim's best show I think. I have not yet seen Awake and Sing. Very excited though...my tickets aren't for a couple of weeks.

i find that the problem with PO is the book.
it drags and is generally not engaging enough.
i saw the recent Roundabout production and fell in love. it's brilliant.
Fabrizio- if i were in NY i would go see History Boys daily. it's a brilliant play

The History Boys is ridiculously brilliant.
When people say they don't like it, it makes me want to cry.
re: Talk about anything except Wicked#10
Posted: 4/19/06 at 7:12pmREALLY want to see History Boys. Coming to NYC in a week and can't decide between that or Wicked. Oops.

Posted: 4/19/06 at 7:16pmSorry, I didn't like History Boys. As much as I went in wanting to like it, I found the evening rather trite (with the exception of a couple of performances).

Posted: 4/19/06 at 7:16pmI find Dakin's new hair cut unbelievably annoying and bad looking
re: Talk about anything except Wicked#14
Posted: 4/19/06 at 7:19pmI will say, the actor who portrayed Posner sang a wonderful interpretation of "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered".

But so much of Pacific Overtures is so smart. Particularly the way it pits Eastern Theatre and Occidental traditions against each other. That is amazing to me.
"Someone in a Tree" is Sondheim's most successfully realized, and I think best, song.

What does Dakin's new hair cut look like? He's still walking sex, right?
The touring Posner had such a beautiful voice; his Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered was haunting. Maybe Sam Barnett's been taking voice lessons! In London his singing was kind of...uncomfortable. (To hear.)

I think Idina Menzel is the sexiest woman ever to wear a red tracksuit....
... OH. Damn.

Posted: 4/19/06 at 7:40pmJoshy, Posner had a very sweet voice. His rendition of the song was so simply expressive and was the highlight of the show to me.

Loved Awake and Sing! and love History Boys.
Thus far, it's been a pretty good year for plays.

Posted: 4/19/06 at 7:57pmAwake and Sing was ridiculously boring and had no focus. I thought that the production and staging were totally off, with a focus on the ensemble, not Ralph. The performances were horrible, as well.

IS DAKIN'S HAIR STILL LIKE THAT? That's a promo shot for the movie so I wasn't sure...oh god.
Also, um, if anyone (Caroline-Q-or-TBoo?) wants to hear the touring Posner's Bewitched, Bothered + Bewildered...I might be able to help. Wink. It's gorgeous.
Dakin's hot.
