Back from Tarzan!
The show is much tighter now. The dialogue (mainly amongst the humans, and between Kala and Kerchak) and lighting are the biggest changes that I saw. Minor things in Trashin the Camp, Everything that I Am.
Biggest difference- the ending!
*SPOILERS*
So the end of the actual show is about the same, with Jane running back to Tarzan, they both strap onto the same harness, and go swinging around the stage til they reach the top. They make out, Tarzan does his yell, the ensemble sings. Curtain comes down.
Then- new remix of the songs from the orchestra, and lights flashing throughout the audience. Curtain goes up on the empty stage. About 8 (6? 10?) gorillas come down from the ceiling on bungee cords, bounce around and bow. Another 6 gorillas come from the wings, bow. The gorillas from above join them for a group bow. The other characters from the show come out from the wings to bow as usual- ensemble, young Tarzan, Mr. Porter, Terk, Kala, Kerchak.
Jane and Tarzan (Tarzan in his loincloth, and Jane now in her white undergarments that she wore during For The First Time) come from the rear mezz on their ziplines/vines (or however you want to call it), and swing onto the stage from above the audience. Then they get their bows. The whole cast then sings Son Of Man.
I like this ending MUCH better!!
There are still more changes to come next week and the show isn't close to frozen yet, according to the cast (at the stage door). Looking forward to seeing it again!

Is the curtain call different?
I guess this is curtain call...
Glad to see they're changing the curtain call, rather than focusing on the SHOW.

i really hope i can see this soon! it sounds great! are there any pictures or video clips up yet?
No - and they're wise to not release any. They would make you LAUGH.
Munk, do you always have to say something negative about everything?
Nope, just TARZAN.
I don't think I've read a single review you have written about any show that didn't have something negative.

liotte, just ignore. Don't give the pleasure that he/she wants.
I decided to not read your ending this time. I will see the show at the end of the month.
Do you know when the show will be frozen?
The show should be frozen on May 10th...
A single positive review?
THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA
DOUBT
SWEENEY TODD
and that's just recent memory. Last season, earlier on, I wrote more positive reviews for SPAMALOT, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, JULIUS CAESAR, and certainly friendly reviews for RABBIT HOLE, THE PILLOWMAN, 700 SUNDAYS, ON GOLDEN POND, ALL SHOOK UP, etc.
As long as ASU got a friendly review, that's ok.

liotte - Isn't May 10th opening night? The show is usually frozen a week before opening night. no? Critics usually see the show 3-5 days before the opening night as well.
How do Tarzan and Jane get from the stage to the rear mezz so fast?
And how fast do they come down...wouldn't that be scary?

Does the flying from the mezz not just get boring after a while? seems like they use the trick or effect a little too much. They should think of other inventive things to do. Does anything raise/lower from the floor?
May 10th is opening night, so I know it will be frozen then. Before that, who knows.
And Jenn said she and Josh RUN to get to the back of the mezz (and Jenn needs to change) so they can get hooked in and go. The curtain was down for almost 2 mins (I guesstimate) before they started curtain call, I guess to give them time to get there and everyone hooked up. They went at a medium speed, it is controlled so they don't fly superfast down there.

I really like Tarzan, but I agree that there are things of much higher priority that need to be fixed before they work on making curtain call more entertaining.
But maybe those will be fixed too...I hope so at least.

Including this ending, they only use the flying down from the mezz 3 times- for Tarzan's first entrance, for Terk's entrance at the beginning of Act 2, and now for curtain call.
Yes, the stage has lots of trapdoors and a lot of things are raised from the floor and lowered into it.

Cool. Just seemed like they found a gimmick that works and kept using it and kept using it. Out of curiousity, since you've seen the show multiple times, how does Tarzan fly down from the mezz? I'm just trying to get the visual. I mean, do the people in the mezz see him and Jenn strap themselves in and fly down? or what?
There is a podium/box type thing hanging from the ceiling/rafters in the back of the mezz. It is only open on the side that faces the stage. Unless you know to look in there, the audience doesn't see them standing there. As soon as they jump out and swing down (on a harness, attached to a zipline type wire), a spotlight shines on them and follows them down.

I can't wait to see this! The new ending sounds spiffy. Not that I have anything to compare it too.
A question unrelated to the ending, but how crowded has rush been lately? I FINALLY have the time off and the money (hooray for college recognizing jewish holidays), so I'm planning to go tomorrow (Thursday, though technically that's today...). (And maybe Friday too :P) And I just wanted to know what time I ought to get there.
I'd say get there around 3 or so. I got there at about 3:45 today and when we got to the window there was only 1 ticket left.
And watch out, there is some scalper guy who kept trying to cut the line. He'd just try and cut people until someone said something.

I'm sorry....unless they rewrite the entire book and score, nothing can make Tarzan better. Curtain call is the LAST thing they should be working on.
Thanks liotte I love reading your Tarzan reviews, it was said on another thread and you were modest, but you are this boards official Tarzan spoksman.
Side note
Munk....
I found your Lestat review very fair, if not "friendly."
