Etoile: Every time I go up to a box office to puchase tickets on the spot (unless it's something like 3 DAYS OF RAIN, PAJAMA GAME, WICKET, JERSEY BOYS, SPAMALOT) I say "I would like to use the playbill discount, please." I always get a discount - whether the ticket is $45 or $75 - I still always get a discount when I say that.
Don't presume anything. Give it a try sometime. Guaranteed it will work - it's never failed for me, and I've been doing it for five years.

And I've had times where I've scrambled through my bag looking for a Theatermania discount because a Playbill expired days before. I've also have printout and hand and have had the box offices no longer honor discounts because a show was unexpectedly closing soon. I've had people in line behind me ask to use the same code I used and if they didn't have a printout they've denied them.
You must lead a charmed life.
I just think it's irresponsible to tell someone something that A.) violates a policy and B.) leaves someone coming from out of town unprepared.

Every time before that I was in the orchestra, but this last time, I was in the mezz and it was only me and a couple of other people giving it a standing O. I wonder about that, actually.

Sweeney is a show with no middle ground & this revival is no exception. I know people who love it to death & have heard conversation during intermission in the mens room about how this person thought it was deadly. If you do not know what it is going in ( as in a tourist never hearing of it) you probably will not like it. If you are a theater buff & like Sondheim, that is a different story

Yeah, it's a gamble every time I take someone to Sweeney with me. I've seen it so many times lately that I'm running out of people to go with (and I prefer to go by myself, besides) but it's really nervewracking that more than one of my friends have said afterward that they "just didn't get it".
There was a woman a few rows in front of me one time who left during intermission and before she left, she loudly told her friend that "I'm sure it's a good show, it just isn't for me--I mean, I love sets that move... and this show just isn't for me," which was not only the cutest reason for not liking Sweeney ever, but also amusing because she was so loud that it seemed like she was announcing it to the entire theatre.

Heh, that's what I said. My friend said, "Maybe she would've been happier at Wicked?" and I was like, "Or... the original production, at least. Mrs. Lovett's shop never stops spinning in that one."
I can't imagine only liking shows with sets that move, though. Maybe she was a set designer or something and was offended by the minimalist approach.

It blows my mind that people are still going into this show and not expecting a barebones dark as hell interpretation. I mean they have been very clear about what it is from the begining and I cant imagine not knowing that is what you are going to see. Havent the people seen the huge posters on the outside of the theater or read an article about it? I mean you would have to live under a rock to not know that this show isnt a Wicked or a Mama Mia. For god sakes, its about killing people and baking them into pies. There is a 4 foot bloody razor on the Marquee! How people can not know what to expect is beyond me...
This show is so spectacular and I hope that it starts getting recieved well again like it deserves.
