Hey guys. I used to be a member a few years ago but have been MIA lately. Anyway I need to take my little brother and sister to a show that is kid friendly. I'm not a big Disney fan.... so I know nothing about the new shows. What do you guys think is better Tarzan or Mary Poppins? I have my degree in musical theatre and have been performing my entire life so I'm rather picky. I'd appreciate honest answers! Thanks so much!

I haven't seen Tarzan or Mary Poppins. So don't take my word for it.

But I bet you will get more responses for Mary Poppins. I heard Tarzan was a mess.

TARZAN is probably the worst thing I have ever seen in my life.

ANYTHING but TARZAN.

I don't know what these people saw because Tarzan is by far the worst thing I've ever seen in my life, and not only on a stage. Mary Poppins is great, definately go see it.

If you want to be deeply and spiritually moved I say Tarzan, but if you just want a fun night at the theatre I say MP. Not to say that Tarzan isn't fun = )

Mary Poppins.

And Munk I completley agree. HAHAHAHAHA

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

just because you didn't like it doesn't mean me or the original poster can't. you shouldn't be so mean, it's just my opinion, no need to criticize. just answer the poster's question and move on.

avyrocks, if tarzan was the best show you have ever seen then it is clear you don't go to the theatre a lot.

I've seen both. Poppins.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

Tarzan was absolutle awful! "Sure as Sun Turns to Move" will having you banging your head against the seat in front of you and its only 20 minutes into the first act. It gets worse.
Mary Poppins was a lot better in London, but it's still a fairly well written show. Stiles and Drewe are talented that guys that have given some nice additions of the original score. It's the only Disney show I can say I really enjoyed.

Lizzy, why would you say something like that when you've neither seen Poppins nor Tarzan? I've seen Poppins, but not Tarzan, so, like you, I have no right to say anything about its spiritual merit.

Let me say something that may relate to how you feel about Tarzan. Before I saw The Woman in White, I spent the year prior listening to it on the OLC Recording until it came to NY. I LOVED the story and characters and atmosphere, but I realized I had no right to comment on the SHOW until I was able to see it (it lived up to my expectations, by the way). The great theatre writer Steven Suskin said relatively the same thing about it on Playbill.com. He loved the CD and thought it was a great score.story, but eh said he had no reason or means to comment on its actual theatricality because he had yet to see the physical production.

if you've listened to the cast recording, watched every single video and interview, read every article, and research every person involved with a show, you have to right to say whatever you want about it. although I have not seen Tarzan I know all the songs and everything about it, and it really spiritually moved me. Same w/ Mary Poppins, and I think it's more of just an enjoyable thing to watch and not really that deep. I have the right to say whatever I want, you don't own these boards. I am simply replying to the original poster, and that's all you should be doing, not arguing with someone else's reply that didn't involve you.

What is wrong with you?

I was trying to be understanding...that's why I gave you an EXAMPLE OF MYSELF WHERE I LOVED A SHOW BASED ON A RECORDING. I was trying to help you understand that you have no credibility for making a statement like that when you haven't sat your rear end in a seat and watched it THERE. Same thing with me. I didn't know if I'd like it LIVE, so I couldn't have a FULL opinion until I was THERE. I know from experience....you know, the one I pointed out to you?

Bootlegs are not the same thing. OBCRs are NOT the same things...Broadway.com opening night coverage is NOT THE SAME THING.

For goodness sake, don't you read into anything?

Edited for grammar

How is Tarzan spiritually moving? If you have pretty simplistic taste and no appreciation for lyrics, music, book, etc. then I can understand finding it fun, but MOVING?

Even if some people do like Tarzan, look at the ages and other favorite shows of those that do, even if the kids may like it, Poppins would still be the overall better choice.

Well that's your opinion of Tarzan, I gave mine.

I know what you were saying but I still think I have a pretty good idea of what both shows are like, and I say Tarzan for tears and Poppins for fun.

Can someone still explain to me how the story is moving? maybe in a crusade-esque way, but I still don't see it!
