And if it is for kids, why would you want to make them cry?

I shall state my views in the form of a Lou and Andy sketch. If anyone has seen Little Britain, they know what I'm talking about:

LOU: So Andy, what show do you wanna see when we go to New York?

ANDY: I want that one.

LOU: That is Tarzan.

ANDY: Yeah, I know.

LOU: You wanna see Tarzan?

ANDY: Yeah.

LOU: But you don't like Tarzan. You said that just from seeing clips on the Internet, it looked like the poorest excuse for a Broadway musical. You said it was more suited for Disney's Animal Kingdom. You said you couldn't understand why Bob Crowley was chosen to direct the show when he couldn't even design a set.

ANDY: Yeah, I know.

LOU: So what do you wanna see?

ANDY: I want that one.

LOU: So you're stickin' with Tarzan?

ANDY: Yeah?

LOU: All right.

(Days later at the Richard Rogers theatre, right when the show starts)

ANDY: I wanna see Mary Poppins!

In other words, see Mary Poppins.

Well Ive seen both more than once and like them both for different reasons. I think Mary Poppins is a much bigger spectacle so if thats your thing (or the kids' thing) then see that. I think the performers in Tarzan make it well worth the visit. Both have songs you should know and hopefully already love.

BTW, I dont think its such an insane idea for someone to find Tarzan moving, I took my mom and she cried at a few points throughout the show, but I sortve expected a mom to relate to Kala's pain.

ok - i was at a hotel awards show tonight and the leads from tarzan came and did 4 songs - i'll use my own judgement and go see Mary Poppins. I know Jenn Gambatese is usually good - but she was NOT tonight. She started off with a number of off key notes that even my almost tone deaf husband noticed! I think I'll skip that one. It just didn't do it for me. Thanks for the opinions guys.

I fled TARZAN before it was even over...how could people possibly sit through the entire thing, let alone twice?

Yeah well to those who can't find enjoyment in variety........God bless you. I suppose these are all the people that will jump on board serious and straightforward plays and musicals. Don't let it bother you......I enjoyed Tarzan...I went in after having bought my tickets expecting crap because of people like this and ended up enjoying the heck out of it!! If you are a musical theater TRADITIONALIST then you probably will not like either kind of like these folks. If you like all kinds of entertainment and enjoy creativity then you will have a great time.

A "mess?" huh? Wow!! If that was a mess what would you call some average amateur high school or community theater production? Oh well everyone has an opinion.

Definitely Mary Poppins.

The kids who sat beside me at Tarzan were completely bored. I enjoyed watching the amazement on the kids' faces at MP.

I haven't seen Mary Poppins yet, but I would bet my life on enjoying it more than Tarzan.

FireEscape: What I would call an average HS or Community Theater production would be based solely on the merits of that particular production, and always remembering that those shows are done by amateurs. Talented people for the most part, but still amateurs.

I look at a Broadway production with a more critical eye. I pay more and I expect more. While I didn't think TARZAN was the worst thing I've ever seen, I certainly didn't think it was good by any standard and considering the talent involved and money expended it was and remains a mess.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

Mary Poppins is a far superior show. However, little kids would certainly be entertained with Tarzan.

I didn't like Tarzan, but didn't hate it either, and did not think it was the worst show of last season (that honor belongs to Lestat).

Mary Poppins is the show to take your siblings.

Alright! Alright! It's clear to see that there are so many EXPERTS on this board with many opinions. Its ok to have an opinion and it is also ok to not like a production. What is not ok is using your preference and how you disliked a show to assure others the same fate.

I also watch performances with an avid and very critical eye. I know when I do not like something. I also know when something is crap no matter to whose standards it applies to. let's take a look at Tarzan shall we.......

Talent-wise I think we can't argue that there is great talent here vocally and performance-wise....sure there may be those who might have been miscast but by no means could cause the show to be a mess!

Visually---if you don't like green you don't like green!! The visual effects in this show were great....no doubt. I personally could not stand Rent's static set. It got unbelievably boring to me. But I would in no way say that that made the show a mess!

musically--okay what can we say about this...it is Phil Collins. If you don't like the style of music you probably won't enjoy the show yourself.

Book---Guys, it is Disney's adaptation of Tarzan based on an animated movie for kids! Just like Beauty and the Beast and the Lion King before it is going to carry the same weight. Consider the source!!!

If I have ever disliked a show (which I have) and critically banned it from any taste whatsoever and thereafter influenced others to not see it, I apologize. I shouldn't have. I guess the appropriate thing to do ina professional manner would be to see what kind of interest that theatergoer has and what shows that have previously liked. That could possibly help steer people in the right direction. There are many instances that I have liked shows that people have torn apart here. I am glad I made my own choices though. I know now in hindsight that if I would have missed those shows because of so many people's STRONG opnions I would have missing from my existence some wonderful experiences.

I have no interest in Tarzan, whatsoever, but I saw Mary Poppins in London and liked it so much, I saw it twice. I would definitely suggest Mary Poppins, if for no other reason, and there are many, Gavin Lee is incredible as Bert!

Don't miss it!

if you've listened to the cast recording, watched every single video and interview, read every article, and research every person involved with a show, you have to right to say whatever you want about it

No you can't and check your PM's.
