I'll post a review tonight when I get back.
And yes, by the way, you do need tickets to get in.

Ok, back from the sneak peek! I sat in the 5th row of the orchestra at the New Amsterdam (where the Lion King is playing). And I'm sorry that I don't know some of the people's names, as they were said once and very quickly.
It was so cool. They opened the curtain and 4 people (Josh Strickland, another Josh, Schele Williams, and Kearran Giovanni) sang Son Of Man.
Then Tom Schumacher(head of Disney Theatrical Productions I think) came on and talked about the show, the concept, basically retold the story of the Disney movie and taking it to Broadway. We saw some slides of the costume designs, the set designs, and some videos of choreography from their staging in Argentina as well as the US. It looked really cool, the way they have people/gorillas/other animals swinging all over the stage. A lot of the show takes place on the walls and in the air, which looks fun.
The director/costume/scenic designer, Bob Crowley, came onstage and did a chat with Tom (disney man) about the show and the ideas. They showed a video with clips from the movie fading into clips from the show as they were staging it (since rehearsals don't start for 3 months).
We heard a new song from the show, For The First Time, sung by Josh Strickland and Jenn Gambatese (who if you know me and my ASU love, I was soooo happy and shocked to see her). In talking to Jenn at the stage door afterwards, she's planning on playing Jane, as she leaves ASU in December when her contract ends. They both sounded great and the song was awesome.
Then to sing some of the other songs in the show (new songs as well as Strangers Like Me, Two Worlds, Trashing the Camp, You'll be in my Heart), PHIL COLLINS comes on the stage and chats and sings everything. OMG, amazing to hear him and see him there, singing his songs and talking about his experiences with the movie and the show now. All of the actors who participated tonight (5 people) plus Phil sang You'll Be in my Heart as the closing song, it sounded fantastic.
We all got press packs on the way out with calendars about opening dates (preview schedule is weird as they are in NYC- previews begin March 24, show opens May 10 at the Richard Rodgers theater if you don't know), a notepad with the tarzan logo, and the movie CD.
The show looks like it will be really cool, especially the special effects with flying around, the jungle scenery, and some great new music (apparently 8 new songs along with the original movie songs). The cast that participated tonight (whether they will be in the show or not) sounded great, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the show this spring.

They didn't announce anything about casting, the only reason I know about Jenn is from talking to her at the stage door afterwards.

For the first time, I'm excited about TARZAN.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

WHO's THE TARZAN?
I guess we'll never know
But if it's not Matty Fresh, I don't know how interested I'll be. He was the only real reason I was planning on seeing the show in the first place! But we'll see...

sounds like the Lion King with people.....
It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story...
