Hi everyone, I know this is a kind of random post, but several months ago I asked for everyones opinions on what shows to see during my first trip to New York. I just got back from the first show, "The Drowsy Chaperone", and I must say that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!
I'm seeing Jersey Boys tonight, Wicked on Friday, and Spring Awakening and Hairspray on Saturday. I must say that these shows will have a lot to live up to; I can't get over how awesome Drowsy was! Too bad I left my camera at the hotel, as some of the actors were in the lobby afterwards to help raise money for a charity. I would have loved a picture with some of the cast, although I did buy a signed poster. Perhaps other people have seen cast out and about as of late? It sounds like this is something that all of the shows do every once in a while?
Anyways, thanks again. Oh, and in other news, for the first time in my life I "randomly" saw a celebrity! Roger Rees (Robinhood Men in Tights, Cheers, Grey's Anatomy) was having a drink at the table next to my girlfriend and I last night! This is a great city!

so glad you're enjoying your trip!! broadway is a magical place, no?
oh and the charity you're talking about is Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. BC/EFA is a very prominent charity in the theatre community, and all the shows do a lot of work to raise money. and the shows make announcements starting mid-march to gain money and start to prep. for the Easter Bonnet Competition [all the shows make some kind of crazy headpiece that raise money]
it's a really good cause that i also do a lot of work for, so i'm glad you donated!

Just got back from 'Jersey Boys'! I'm 2 for 2 now with signed posters; I'm going to be really bummed if one of the shows I go to doesn't offer them :/
Well, I was hoping Jersey Boys would blow Mama Mia out of the water in the mind of my mother. She has been ranting and raving about Mama Mia since she saw it in London, much to my dismay. It's kind of like what sometimes goes on on this message board; when some people rant and rave incessantly about something, it can make other people dislike it. Anyways, she wasn't blown away like I had hoped, although she enjoyed it she made sure to tell me that both Mama Mia in London and here in New York (she saw it today) were both better than it. Argh, perhaps to each their own I suppose. Hopefully Wicked will do the trick so I won't have to hear about Mama Mia in London anymore! AHHHHH!
I have a question for everyone out there; does anyone know how hard it is to get a playbill signed at Wicked by any of the major cast members? A special education teacher I work with back in California absolutely loves Wicked (she listens to it everynight, and is thinking about flying her family to southern california to see it there when it tours there). I'd really like to bring her back something kinda unique from the show! I've considered buying a signed poster for her too, but $100 is quite a bit for someone I've only worked a few months with, especially living on an intern's salary like myself.
Thanks again, this is a great city!

fugazi,
It's relatively easy to get everyone to sign if you're willing to wait a while and put up with the crowd at the stage door. The couple times I've gone I think all of the leads came out and signed and were happy to try and get to everyone.
I haven't gone since the casts switched over but I don't think you'll have a difficult time.
Good luck, and enjoy the show. It sounds like you're having a great trip.
