Neither has Fantasia, according to the article, so what's your problem?

I think Fantasia will be great and will even make me want to see this show a second time.

Quick question...So I keep reading the jokes aimed at her illiteracy but when she came out as illiterate, didn't she get a tutor and start learning to read?
Also, how much acting will be involved for her if the character is so close to her real life anyway? Reminds me of George Strait playing a country singer and Shaquile O'Neal playing a basketball player.
Hey Virgo-
I didn't read a rule that everything her has to be optimistic. I can be as negative as I want, as can everybody else. Thanks.

Yes, Fantasia can read and write. The illiteracy jokes will probably continue for another 10 years or so, because, well, it's easy, isn't it?
As for the acting question, have you seen the Color Purple? The role is incredibly demanding. There are thousands of woman who have suffered sexual abuse, poverty, young motherhood, etc., but that doesn't mean they would be capable of playing Celie. We don't know if Fantasia is capable of it.
Concerning the money Fantasia's announcement has generated, if any old stunt casting for the Color Purple could bring in $6 million, why haven't we heard anything about Michelle Williams in Chicago? Surely she's a far bigger star than Fantasia.
Someone above had a question about Fantasia's stage presence. For those who don't follow R&B music, you may not know that Fantasia has developed a reputation as one of the most electrifying live performers since the days of Tina Turner. If you want an example, look up her "Baby, I Love You" performance at the recently televised tribute to Aretha Franklin. And if that performance doesn't move you, or if you were worried about her phrasing during I'm Here on Oprah and American Idol, or you prefer LaChanze's more techinically proficient version, definitely skip the Color Purple for the next six months, because Fantasia is not for you. And there's nothing wrong with that--that's why we have everything from Mary Poppins to Grey Gardens to the Color Purple on Broadway--different tastes for different people.

i respect what she's doing, but would never support it.
