MANY MANY problems hahaha. Cry Baby for best musical over Young Frankenstein?
No Jackie Hoffman or Mary Testa or Cheyenne Jackson. It is a sad morning.
Yay for Robin deJesus.

Posted: 5/13/08 at 8:54amI'm actually glad they didn't reward the scenery chewing of Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa.

Cry Baby for best musical? didnt see that coming after its monsterous reviews.
...on the other hand-yay for In the Heights!!

Posted: 5/13/08 at 8:57amDoes someone hate Cheyenne? Because, otherwise, I just don't get it. I honestly, truly don't get it. I don't see how Stew qualifies as an actor, and while I love Tom Wopat (And thought he was the best part of the otherwise boring ACA) he was hardly nomination worthy himself.

I was ok with the majority of them. Loved the De Jesus nom, and
definitely Conleth Hill, who was brilliant !!!

I'm not sure if you're joking or not Foster, but if you've seen Passing Strange de'Adre Aziza plays the pornographic filmmaker who's movies feature businessmen with her clothes on, the teenage goddess at church, and the girl who gives Stew her keys.
She was also terrific as the title character in Doris to Darlene at Playwrights Horizons last December.
In addition to Jackson, a part of me is at least a little surprised Sherie Rene Scott or Tituss Burgess didn't end up with something.

de'Adre Aziza is one of the best parts about Passing Strange. Ditto Wopat. He's the best part about A Catered Affair.

Posted: 5/13/08 at 9:03amI'm pleased with the nominations for Raul, Daniel Evans, Robin De Jesus, Stew & everything from BOEING BOEING. I'm shocked CRY-BABY got the 4th slot for Best Musical, but I enjoyed that one more than I did YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN or THE LITTLE MERMAID, so I don't mind. (I have not yet seen A CATERED AFFAIR.)

Sadly, Wopat's performance was something the Theater Gods seemed destined to praise and they must acknowledge that over Jackson, who's thighs are certainly also with praising. Jackson is indeed a gift to the community, but I understand the snub.
The fact that CRY-BABY was nominated over A CATERED AFFAIR for score, best musical and best book is disgusting, shocking and an outrage.
But Miss Benanti? Now, THAT'S what I'm talking about.

Posted: 5/13/08 at 9:04amNo, awful performances are Stew saying to the audience in a bland voice "I don't know how to write a musical number, so this isn't a musical number". (Snores)

Thank you, bschneid76.
Tom Wopat deserves his nod. The one who I think should have been booted out of Best Leading "Actor" was Stew.
Stew stands at a lectern and reads from a script.
Cheyenne's acting and belting his head off in XANADU.

I have no real problems with any of the nominations, of course there are a few that can be debated, but that is always the case.
I'm just thrilled that Kerry Butler FINALLY got her first Tony nomination.
