The "Wicked" Tony's??

Hey...I haven't seen Wicked YET, but I can't stop listening to the CD...I just can't help but wonder how many Tony's there gonna get! Personally, I hope they nominate Idina for best leading actress, and then Kristin for best supposrting actress...Then they can both with the Tony...I think the show will be the biggest Tony winner of the year...What other things do you think they may win or get nominated for??

I agree with everything broadwayguy said. They definitely deserve set, lighting and costumes.
I also am praying for Idina to win Best Actress and Kristin for Supporting Actress.
I also agree with orchestrations. I love the orchestrations in all of the songs, especially "Defying Gravity".
Let's Not forget Best Musical!

Off Topic- I'm also rooting for Never Gonna Dance. I think it has a a good chance at choreography. And if Kristin gets nominated in the Leading Actress category, Karen Ziemba has a damn good chance for supporting, I think- since the critics priased her for her role and performance.

I haven't seen "Wicked" yet, but I agree that it's a lock for a Best Musical nomination. Now whether it will actually win is another story, which I think it will. I also hope Idina gets Best Actress in a Musical.

I know that her name is above the title of the show, but it is Elphaba's story. Elphaba has more songs, time by herself, etc. We delve deeper into Elphaba's character than we do Galinda's. The only time we see her without Elphaba is really "Thank Goodness". Kristin is mostly comic relief. And although she has a lot of time on stage and a lot of singing and acting to do, it is clearly the story of how Elphaba came to be the way she was.

since you said it shouldnt win for choreography, who do you think would? Never Gonna Dance?

It doesn't matter if Chenoweth's name is above the title. Chita Rivera, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Jane Krakowski were all above the title for Nine, and were under Best Supporting Actress.

Idina HAS the tony

Roundabout submitted the petition for the ladies above the title in NINE to be considered as supporting actresses in the required time. There was also the precedent of all the women who created those roles in the original production being nominated for Tonys as supporting actresses.

The publicist for WICKED has stated that both actresses will be considered for best actress. The supporting actresses in WICKED are Carole Shelley and Michele Federer. When Chenoweth is one of the two names thrown about for every musical production nowadays, why would she (or her more precisely her agents) consent to be considered a supporting actress in a show that she is clearly the lead? I do think Menzel stands a very good chance of walking away with a Tony this year. I don't think her chances are necessarily any smaller just because Chenoweth is likely to be a fellow nominee. Now in critics awards, I doubt Menzel will do well. They are going to hand their awards to Chenoweth, Murphy or Pinkins. But I think Menzel will fare well with Tony voters.

"Rigged" is such a...dirty word....

But look at Urinetown versus the enjoyable, but inferior Millie. Millie had as one of it's many, many producing entities a group of 40+ road producers/bookers, each of whom has one vote. Millie looked as if it would make more money on the road than Urinetown so there were about 60 votes for Millie right off the bat.

In a far more mediocre season, Titanic won Best Musical but the producers had said they were planning a tour. Again, all those road League members saw dollars if they booked a Tony winner, and that's part of the reason a so-so show in a rotten year took the prize.

It happens. Alas.
