Guys, guys, guys. I was not saying that Elphaba isn't the star of the show, of course she is. Her part is larger and far more important without a doubt. However, I was saying that Glinda is a large role, and as large as some lead roles in other shows. And I believe that, since she is billed above the title, she must be a leading actress, I could've sworn reading somewhere that it is a rule, but I could be wrong.

As much as I want Idina to win, there is no way the producers are going to put Kristin in supporting! With that said, its between Kristin and Donna.. and MAYBE, HOPEFULLY, there being an upset with Idina because the other two have won before.. and because Idina is more that award- deserving!

Have you seen Wonderful Town or Q?
Donna Murphy has her name all over the Best Actress category.
I predict Wonderful Town to win best revival(unless Fiddler kicks ass)
I want Avenue Q to win best Musical
Stephanie D'Abruzzo to win supporting actress
Donna Murphy to tie with Kristin as best actress (has that ever happened?)

Thelma Ritter and Gwen Verdon tied for Best Actress for New Girl in Town in 1958 (though Thelma Ritter's role was a supporting role). Anna Maria Alberghetti (Carnival) and Diahann Carroll (No Strings) tied for Best Actress in a Musical in 1962. Leslie Uggams (Hallelujah, Baby!) and Patricia Routledge (Darling of the Day) tied for Best Actress in a Musical in 1968, though by the time of the awards, Hallelujah, Baby! was already closed and Darling of the day had run a mere 32 performances. And Constance Cummings (Wings) and Carole Shelley (The Elephant Man) tied for Best Actress in a Play in 1979.

As for Avenue Q, though it is clearly the season's Best Musical, it is probably too small and special to win the award. Big $$$ wins the Tony for Best Musical, not the season's actual Best Musical.

Donna Murphy will probably win Best Actress if she stays healthy, though if Caroline, or Change moves, I hope Tonya Pinkins gives her a run for her money. Not Murphy's fault, but the fact that some critics call her performance better than Roz Russell's leaves me almost without words.

I don't really think there rigged, but I have to agree:
Marrissa over Bernadette....I think that one was just stupidity.

I didn't believe Ragtime deserved Best Musical that year, but that is just me. I love the score, but hated the staging, choreography, and giant gaping holes in the book. I think Ragtime deserves to win a Tony someday in a rewritten and restaged production.

As for the Kristin debate. If her name is above the title, then she is "eligible" for the lead actress category. Dorothy Loudon won Best Actress in a Leading Role for Annie. Daisy Egan won Best Featured Actress for The Secret Garden. How can Mary Lennox NOT be a lead in Secret Garden?? This alone tells you how screwed the system is.

I think the producers have already shown a lack of respect to the material and to Idina by enlarging the character of Glinda to such an extent. If Kristin gets nominated, then Idina will most likely be overlooked as she often was by the critics.

PS - I loved Wayne Cilento's choreography for Tommy.
