I see a huge list of whiny negative threads about tonight's Tony Awards. I am starting this thread as a salute to the wonderful things we should be discussing regarding last night's stunning celebration of American theater!
*After 20 years of hard work and blessing Broadway with her gorgeous voice and overall presence, LaChanze went home a Tony winner tonight.
*The no-host idea paid off brilliantly! Time was spent on the speeches and the performances from this past season. This is what the Tony Awards should be all about. We spent 3 hours watching what we wanted to see in a celebration of another beautiful Broadway season.
*The speeches were all concise, diverse and different. Special recognition to the speeches of John Lloyd Young, Christian Hoff, Cynthia Nixon and Kathleen Marshall.
*Sutton Foster showed us all again why we love to see her "Show Off" what a promising triple-threat she is and how beautifully she speaks for the future of American musical theater.
Keep the positive comments coming! And in the words of Christian Hoff, "God Bless Broadway!"
-Kad
"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

This thread is a nice idea.
Overall, i'm thrilled with the Tony's.
LaChanze, Hoff, Nixon and Young gave beautiful speeches.
Hoff, LaChanze and PJGame were lovely surprises.
None of the performances were awful.
Nicely done Tonys...

YAY!!! I am happy for this thread
Thak you. *hugs*
I am SOOOOO happy for JERSEY BOYS and PAJAMA GAME (even though I love SWEENEY TODD.)
*claps*
It was great to see Bernadette Peters, Joanna Gleason, Norbert Leo Butz, Jonathan Pryce and David Hyde Pierce in all their lovely glory present.
LOL
And OHHHH MMYYYY the SPAMALOT knights... TOOOOO funny!
Loved the piece on Hal Prince with the images of his musicals.
The commercials, too. MARY POPPINS, A CHORUS LINE, LION KING and the DREAMGIRLS trailer.

I thought the In Memoriam part was well done, with James Earl Jones and Cynthia Nixon.
Congratulations to ALL the winners, even the ones that I wouldn't have voted for. Everyone that works on and for all of these shows has so much talent and deserve whatever adulation they get. Well done!

Cynthia Nixon winning and Bebe Neuwirth and Chita Rivera presenting together and entering to the tune of ALL THAT JAZZ was great!
And Julie Andrews. 'Nuff said

The TONY history remembering of Les Miz and Jennifer Holiday, yeah, that's a moment.
I didnot see any new musical this season so far. The only two shows that I saw are Sweeney and History Boys. Both won rave yet let me cold. So the winning of History Boys didnot excite me; the losing of Sweeney did not upset me as well.
I do think Jersey Boys' performance is the highlight of this TONY.

LaChanze winning was perfection!
Seeing Cyndi perform.
James Earl Jones performing from FENCES.
Using the Spamalot knights to make (what usually is) the most boring part of the show less boring.

This was my favorite Tonys, in the fact that what I wanted to win did, for the most part.
The performances were all fantastic!

Sorry I feel really stupid but what was Bob Crowley refering to when he said:
"but between you and me, I should have won it for the other one."

ok, I'll bite:
**"Show Off" showing off Ms. Foster's great gams. YOWZA!!
**As previously mentioned, Alfre Woodard's breasts. teehee
**James Earl Jones & Cynthia Nixon's monologues (however, the In Memoriam montage seemed to be a bit rushed)
**Patricia Neal receiving a replacemnt Tony (and mispronouncing Phylicia Rashad's name too cute!!)
**Joanna Gleason introducing Sweeney Todd "Half...HALF MAD?!?!"
**the Dreamgirls trailer.
**The brief glimpse of Patti Lupone in the opening number. Looked like she was having a blast.
**TR Knight presenting Beast Featured Actress in a Musical (but NOT Sara Ramirez).
**Julie Andrews...looking stunning every minute of it.
**The Color Purple getting *nearly* shut out (pardon my snarkiness)
EDIT: Oh, and Beth Leavel's speech. FUN!!

- Pajama Game winning made my happy... and surprised.
- Alfre Woodward's breasts owned the Tony's.
- Seeing Paul Rudd struggle with the teleprompter.
- John Tartaglia as "Rod."
- All of the showcase performances. I loved them all and I think this was one of the better years for the performances.
- Having Chita Rivera not pronounce anybody dead.
