I love it! I always thought it was a good song, I just didn't like the way Billie Joe Armstrong sings it. But with these orchestrations and the cast, it's great!

From what I understand, AMERICAN IDIOT is largely based on that album but includes some songs from the newest album.

3) Has it even been confirmed that it's coming? I know, it is. But it hasn't been confirmed yet.

4) I'm afraid this is going to turn into the next SPRING AWAKENING. Lots of rebellious angst and shock value but little quality material to back it up. Kind of like being "blue balled" for two hours, I suppose.

Was privileged to see the AMERICAN IDIOT stage production (twice!) in its world premiere at Berkeley Rep. If you liked this version of the song then you are going to be blown away by the stage production. The 60s had HAIR as the iconic musical, the 80s, RENT. Fittingly, the beginnings of the 21st century will be represented by A.I. NY opening will be some time in 2010 and it will tour soon after. When it comes to your city, just GO.
p.s.: A.I. is all of the album of the same name plus 5 additional Green Day songs. Two, including 21 Guns, are from 21st Century Breakdown. I'll be very surprised if the song list changes significantly.
p.p.s.: According the Berkeley Reps program notes for A.I. Billie Joe Armstrong grew up listening to show tunes.

My nephew is an agent for one of the Berkeley world premiere cast members and a casting call has already gone out for the NY cast. Although a NY theatre/date has yet to be announced, I'm willing to bet my "show queen" rep that A.I. will open right before the close-off date for this season's Tony noms. Since "21 Guns" will be on iTunes, etc. on 12/22 [I believe], it wouldn't unreasonable for an announcement to be made at that time. One can hope, can't one?

Your guess is as good as mine. The Berkeley Rep is a small-ish house - 800 seats, I believe - and A.I. would benefit from a NY house that intimate, but I'm guessing the producers will/must go for something mid-sized.
FYI, the set is three or four "stories" high - goes waaaaaay up into the flies.
Although the director said that the CA performances were a "first draft" IMHO, it doesn't need much fine-tuning and is Broadway-ready.
If you check my profile you can see why I feel qualified to make these statements. That said...opinions are opinions.

p.s.: My [NY agent]nephew's husband is an in-demand dresser on B-way. He also dresses cast members of the Today Show & SNL.
My "theatre queen" tiara & scepter can be confidently passed on one day.

The casting call has gone out already and they are waiting (with fingers crossed) for the St. James theater they said it had the right vibe for the show!! I personally can't wait just so I can see Tony Vincent in action again!!!

Of all the amazing voices in the "Berserkery" cast, Tony Vincent's stood out to me. Super strong and great clarity/enunciation. Also, St. Jimmy is A.I.'s version of TOMMY's Acid Queen - a very showy role. Tony sings "Know Your Enemy" from 21st Century Breakdown - among others. Very possible TONY nod for T.V. next year - assuming he's in.
