Phyllicia Rashad? Are you serious?
I would have to say that when Arthur Hiller won The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Oscar a few years back, that was the best acceptance speech.
He said that he's almost embarrassed to be winning an award for being a good humanitarian. You're supposed to be a good person, you're not supposed to be a bad person. He was so real, so geninue....
Have to disagree with you on Phylicia (sp?) for RAISIN. Perhaps it was nerves, or she was surprised that she won, but she came across very cold and "aren't you all so lucky to me looking at me winning this award." When she left the stage, I turned to my friend Jo Anne, who I was watching the show with, and we both said, "She really likes herself, doesn't she!"

Agreed. Personally, I wanted to slap that self-satisfied grin right off her face.
I know I may get crap for this but I really did like Idina's Tony Speech.
Me too. *Cough*MyMostWatchedYouTubeVideoEver*Cough*
I for one cannot stand Phylicia Rashad's personality when it comes to interviews, speeches, etc. Actually I don't even like her as a performer (though I do think her Bernarda Alba sounds quite effective on recording).
One of the best Tony speeches was given by Michael Jeter, I always find myself with teary eyes by the time I finish watching it. The man was so touched and joyful and empowered when he won the award (he also gave one of the BEST Tony performances ever).
I agree with Ray about Michael Jeter. He gave a FANTASTIC speech(and a fantastic performance, his Tony performance is on Youtube as well).

Edit: I remember thinking that Phyllicia was giving one of the most fake speeches, when I was watching it.

Gosh, I completely forgot about Jeter. An amazing speech, for an amazing man...an amazing talent!
If ever I meet Ms. Stritch, I will come with a notepad to write down all of her zingers, so I can use them later in life.
Double Post.
I second Daisy Egan's Tony speech.
So adorable.
Here is Michael Jeter's.

I loved Adrian Brody's acceptance speech when he won the Best Actor Oscar for THE PIANIST. He was so overwhelmed and so heartfelt. He was such a happy mess.

That might have been the greatest thing ever.
Thank you.

It's not the BEST Acceptance Speech EVER but I quite liked Dan Fogler's speech when he won his Tony for Spelling Bee. Something about never imagining a guy who looked like himself winning this type of award. It really touched me.

"I feel like Rocky right now and she's my Adrien--JODEEEE(acknowledging his girlfriend). We did it with this hair and this body. Be brave. Be different. And in the words of William Morris Barfee, "My whole life I could only breathe through one nostril and tonight is no exception....Thank you..."

Gotta love him!

I thought about this overnight and logged on today to mention Michael Jeter's acceptance speech. I was pleased to see that others felt the same way. (let's face it, you don't really think all that much about acceptance speeches)
Jeter's speech was honest and emotional (and yes I got teary eyed when I just listened to it again).
Great talent (check out his performance in "Welcome to Collinwood"). His performance at the Tony Awards that year in "We'll Take a Glass Together" is pure joy.
Phyllicia Rashad! That is a hoot! So self-important! And will be SO forgotten three seconds after she's declared dead. Couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.
