I would have to say Tom Hank's speech when he won the Oscar for "Philadelphia." Here is my favorite part:

"And there lies my dilemma here tonight. I know that my work in this case is magnified by the fact that the streets of heaven are too crowded with angels. We know their names. They number 1,000 for each of the red ribbons we wear here tonight.

They finally rest in the warm embrace of the gracious creator of us all. my favorite of all time is stanley donen's sung acceptance of his special Oscar a number of years ago. it was the sweetest acceptance i've ever seen. very heartfelt and clever at the same time.

Since others have mentioned other favorites, I have to mention Emma Thompson's 1995 acceptance speech for Sense and Sensibility at The Golden Globes as if she were Jane Austen accepting the award.

In what way shape or form is that a "Legal" video? Did ABC forget to copyright it's broadcast that night?

This is a big part of the You-Tube problem-- people assume that because they were able to watch the TV show for free that they can do whatever they want with it. ABC owns the rights to that show and all material contained within. Elaine Stritch's "best acceptance speech EVER" is not a legally posted You-Tube video.

Sure, Stritch is a fun ol' broad, but her "humility" on this clip, in AT LIBERTY and in interviews makes me nauseous.

joey, it does amaze me how people around here admire behavior from performers that they would revile in the people around them in their everyday lives.

While I agree it is a problem, I did not assume in this instance. Certain broadcasting companies, such as CBS, have banned their network's shows from being on YouTube. Others, however, are all for the extra promotion and haven't banned them.

I remember watching that speech during the Emmys a few years ago. I was elated that she won, and her speech was by far the highlight of the night. Heck, it would be the highlight of most award shows. Love her.

Like her honesty, spunk, zest for life and candor? Oh, yes, I depsise her for all those things.

Honestly. Tell me one thing that was wrong with her behvaior in the speech.

When I saw this thread title, my immediate thought was Elaine Stritch!

I loved Stuart Damon's emmy acceptance speech in 1999. I love it when "winners" are excited and overjoyed!

Sach Baron Cohen at the last Golden Globes had the BEST SPEECH EVER! (Ok, maybe not, but it was funny!)

Elaine Stritch is an entertainer, and she knew what would entertain the crowd that night. I can't fault her for doing her job!
