Another vote for Michael Jeter in Grand Hotel. Watch his performance on that Tony Award show and listen to his acceptance speech and you can't help getting a lump in your throat.

Excellent job. Had a "Billy Crystalish" quality. Right up there with the best of Tony host, Angela Lansbury, who is class personified

What part of "live" theater don't you get? Lip-synching for any reason is a sham and plain wrong (I want to hear an actual performance, not a perfect one - for that I can listen to the OBC). A few weeks ago I heard Terrence McNally interviewed by Seth Rudetsky. He told a story about asking composers for audition songs for Ragtime. The Ahrens and Flaherty tape included "Wheels of a Dream". When the show opened, an article in the New York Times claimed that Ford Motors required the inclusion of a song about the Ford Model T in the show since they were using the Ford Center for the Performing Arts. Although I consider Ragtime in the top 5 musicals of all time and it has not received the recognition it is due, I hardly consider it a flop. My nominee - Parade.

I thought about this overnight and logged on today to mention Michael Jeter's acceptance speech. I was pleased to see that others felt the same way. (let's face it, you don't really think all that much about acceptance speeches) Jeter's speech was honest and emotional (and yes I got teary eyed when I just listened to it again). Great talent (check out his performance in "Welcome to Collinwood"). His performance at the Tony Awards that year in "We'll Take a Glass Together" is pure joy.

Listening to Seth on Sirius, I'm convinced that he is one of the most knowledgeable people on Broadway's past and present (and funny to boot).

Hillarious moment - during "Betrayed" in The Producers, Bialystock stopping and sitting down for a few seconds when he gets to "Intermission".

Add me to the list of those who think Daly's performance was amazing. Has the toughness of Merman and the vulnerableness of Peters.
