Why? Because It's not an american themed show?

I think that show is anti-christian, anti-american, anti-family values, anti-law enforcement. It promotes sinful behavior. The best thing I can say about it is that it does - it the case of one character - depicts her in the station of life that her people are best suited for.
It saddens my heart that actors must resort to pornograhy to raise money for themselves.

I hope it is. I'd really like for another recording of this show to be available.
It's happening. Seth Rudetsky was the entertainment director on Rosie's cruise. It's going to be Oct 16. It's being worked on now.

Wow! You've never heard of it? Well, it's about aWhorehouse in Teaxas and this guy on TV (Melvin P. Thorpe, a newscaster) is trying to shut it down. And it's just about that! It's based on a true event. I'd say get the OBC. the Tour recording is good too! Also get the movie on DVD for the main Idea.
Reba is not available, nor is Dolly.
Damn It!

Becky Ann Baker!
Becky is perfect!
But I am sure they are aiming for a
Bigger name than that.

Yeah, but she would be great if Papermill did a revival of it!!
Melvin: Nathan Lane (Even though I know he wouldn't do it i'd still think he'd be good as Melvin!)
They just might end up getting Ann Margret to play Mona again (GOD! I hope not)
Calvin suggested Beverly D'Angelo a while back, which seemed like a pretty good choice to me.
See...I grew up in Texas...I watched the real Melvin P Thorpe on TV, and I am frankly quite excited. Is Reba officially not available? She would make a killer Mona. I didn't like the tour w/Ann-Margaret quite as much, she didn't have the vocal ability to make "Bus From Amarillo" touching.
Speaking of BFA, is it at the end of Act 1 or Act 2? Because my copy of the script lists it as Act 2 finale, but the CD for the OBC has it at the end of Act 1.
"Bus From Amarillo" was originally sung by Pam Blair as April, but the creative team decided that the song really should be sung by Mona. Carlin Glynn sang it in the same spot as Blair (end of first act) for the first few weeks of the Broadway run (during which the cast recording was made) but Tune in particular wanted a strong song at the end of Act 2, and so, the song was moved to the end of the show, where it is now.
You should definitely get your hands on a copy of THE WHOREHOUSE PAPERS, a hilarious tell all book about the making of the musical!

Thanks! What if they did something really odd, and cast someone like Charles Busch as Mona?
I think casting Mona in drag would ruin the piece. Beyond some of the campy moments, the relationship between Mona and Ed Earl is often quite touching. The show works best when the characters are played completely honestly. I think the show runs into trouble when it tries to depict Mona as anything other than a no nonsense, salt of the earth, businesswoman.
The Dolly Parton depiction in the film is actually nothing like how the character was written for the stage production. Heck, the real Miss Mona, Edna Milton, was in the ensemble of the OBC, and she was anything but sequins and feather boas. The film producers' first choice, Shirley Maclaine would actually have been a better choice.
Busch would actually make a fun Melvin P. Thorpe.

Yea, you're right.
I've only seen it live with Ann-Margaret, but I can see where it would ruin the show to have too much camp involved. I didn't know that about Edna though, that's kind of cool, and intimidating. I'm still a little confused about the "Aggie Cheerleader Dance" (The name escapes me), what was so revolutionary about it, or different?
Tommy Tune's staging of it and the other musical numbers in the show was pretty brilliant.
Reba, in my opinion, is the only choice to play Mona; and people have been associating her name with a revival for almost a decade.
Since we are assuming she's not in the running...
There aren't many Broadway leading ladies closely linked with country music, which makes the selection of WHOREHOUSE a little odd for the Actor's Fund tradition of rotating leading ladies through each scene, but I suppose it would be entertaining to see completely "wrong" people like Betty Buckley, Bernadette Peters and Daphne Rubin Vega play Mona.
Just so long as they get Carlin Glynn back to do the JFK monologue.
Debbie Gravitte. She already played Nina in Encores! 2000 production of Tenderloin and she was breathtakingly amazing. From "Little Old New York" to "My Gentle Young Johnny" she really wowed! me and the audience. She also has incredible stage presence.
