Posted: 5/30/07 at 2:58pmI've been looking at both of these shows and wondering which recordings I should buy. I've noticed on Amazon that there are a couple albums listed for both shows and I don't really trust the Amazon customer reviews. Anyone care to share their opinions/recommendations? I would really appreciate it.

Get the original cast of BOY FRIEND, not the revival. If you can find it, the soundtrack is a howl, particularly if you've seen the movie and know what's visually happening.
DIVORCE was, to be kind, disappointing. I dont think I'd bother.

Posted: 5/30/07 at 4:02pmI was thinking of getting the 94 revival of Divorce because Lynzi Hately (I still have an obsession with all things connected to Carrie) and Ruthie Henshall. It's not worth having? I'm a collector so it would need to be really bad for me not to get it.

I actually like the revival recording of the Boyfriend with Sandy Duncan and Judy Carne.
The sound quality of stereo of the 60's far surpasses the sound quality of the late 50's.
It's bright and fun and I love it.
I have the origninal cast recording of Divorce Me Darling. I think its a hoot.
I'm not sure about the revival recording.
I enjoy both scores.

Posted: 5/30/07 at 5:12pmThanks for the opinions. I've always been curious about the Sandy Duncan recording, as it's credited with making her a star and growing up I only knew of her from 70's variety/game shows. Well...that and those Love Boat type shows.

I personally enjoy the London cast recording of the Boy Friend, even better than the Broadway version.

Is the London cast available? I know the 1984 revival is still in print.

I have the Divorce revival recording you were speaking of and I think it's great. It has some great moments, especially if you are a collector and like the boyfriend than definitely get it.

I much prer the '54 bway to '69 bway. Julie Andrews kicks Judy Carne's less personable tush and i just like the whole thing better. Sandy Duncan in support is fine but you won't get that much of a kick from just hearing her sing her 2 or so numbers, which were probably great to see her smiling and dancing up a storm through.
I've never played my LP of divorce me darling, but kurt ganzl is crazy about the show in his fascinating Guide to the Musical Theatre On Record and i'm sure it's worth hearing.
