Why hasn't The Color Purple opened in the West End yet? It ran nearly 1,000 performances on Broadway, as well as 2 North American Tours, aChicago company, as well as a new Austrian production (thecolorpurple.eu). This show is pure beauty and deserves another major production.

Posted: 7/4/10 at 2:43pmI would love to see this go to the West End. I love everything about this show. Transfers have been done for Legally Blonde and Shrek so I think it's about time for The Color Purple.

Well the show is no good, that could be the main reason.
What could have/SHOULD HAVE been an amazing show turned out to be the biggest let down I've ever had at the theatre.

I enjoyed the show very much. Love the music. It was refreshing to see a show without any special effects, just pure talent. I was in tears by the end.

I love the show, but really don't think there is much of an audience for it in the West End, especially with the current fascination with jukebox/pop-musicals. I wish musicals with a bit of substance, depth and complex narrative would last.
The novel, The Colo(u)r Purple isn't as big here as it is in the US.
